The Macon County Citizen - Oglethorpe, Ga. Mar. 1, 1912
THE FUNERAL OF DR. ALEXANDER B. MC CASKILL was held in the Marshallville Cemetery on Thursday afternoon, February 23, just after the arrival of the train from Albany, at which place his death occured on Wednesday afternoon, at his home, after a brief illness. He is survived by his widow, Harriet A. (LeSpur) and six sons, Donald McCaskill, Thomas McCaskill, Bruce McCaskill, Bernard McCaskill, Malcolm McCaskill and William McCaskill, who live in different sections of the state. [Note:He was a son of the late Murdock McCaskill and his wife, Eliza Ann (Nixon) Mc Caskill who are buried in Marshallville Cemetery in unmarked graves in a lot directly behind the Methodist Church. There are 9 unmarked McCaskill Family graves in this lot]. Marshallville was the home of his boyhood and young manhood and it seemed fit that when life's work was ended, he should be laid to rest with his father, mother, brothers and sister,[Cornelia McCaskill, William Nixon Mc-Caskill, Donald Cameron McCaskill, Mary Elizabeth McCaskill, Fanny McCaskill and John P. McCaskill] The last of a family well known throughout this section, for warm hearted hospitality and charm of character, which made many strong friends.Dr. McCaskill was a Confederate Veteran and greatly interested in Confederate affairs, a familiar figure at every re-union. As an appreciation of this spirit the UDC Chapter here placed a Confederate flag encircled with a laurel wreath tied the Confederate colors on the casket, among the many floral tributes from sorrowing friends in Albany and Marshallville. An escort of Veterans came from Albany with the family and the remains, the burial service was read by the episcopal Rector, Rev. T. C. Wright of Albany and they sounded Taps." Dr. McCaskill was highly esteemed wherever he had lived, and in every relation of life he will be greatly missed, and his death universally mourned.

Obituary from the Confederate Veteran Magazine
Vol.21-Page 132:
Dr.A.B.McCaskill died at his home in Albany, Ga., on Feb.21,1912. He was of scotch ancestry, born in Macon Co., Ga., on Oct.6,1846. He attended school in Marshallville and Macon, and when only 15 years of age ran away to join an older brother and other relatives in Virginia, serving with the 12th Georgia Regiment. Owing to his age, he could not enlist, but was allowed to stay with the regiment, and he participated in some of the hardest fighting of the war. After much hard service in Virginia he returned to Georgia to accept a lieutenancy in the 5th Georgia Reserves, with which command he served until the surrender. He was justly proud of his record in the Confederate Army and always took an active interest in the affairs of the Confederate veterans. He was an enthusiastic supporter of Camp William Slaughter, No.971, U.C.V. of Albany, and was liberal in aiding his needy comrades. He read medicine after the war and graduated from the Augusta Medical School. He became a most skilled and successful physician, and he attended and treated all veterans free. He leaves a wife and six sons to mourn his going and to honor the name that they bear. He was returned to Marshallville for burial. Sketch by B.F.Brimberry.
