Wicked in Concert is a television special featuring re-imagined musical arrangements created for the event, performed by celebrity artists from the worlds of film, pop, music, and television. At its core, it's a musical celebration of the iconic Broadway musical's score written by composer Stephen Schwartz.
The special, directed by Baayork Lee, aired on PBS on August 29, 2021, and was hosted by Kristin Chenoweth and Idina Menzel (who originated the roles of Glinda and Elphaba, respectively, on Broadway) and featured performances and testimonials by Mario Cantone, Gavin Creel, Ariana DeBose, Cynthia Erivo (who will portray Elphaba in the upcoming movie adaptation), Stephanie Hsu, Rita Moreno, Jennifer Nettles, Alex Newell, Isaac Powell, Amber Riley, Gabrielle Ruiz, and Ali Stroker.
