Carol Midgley Times (UK) Sometimes TV drama can be uncomfortably intense, sometimes profoundly so, and occasionally it can be both... I Am Ruth was a clear-cut case of the latter. Rated: 4/5 Dec 14, 2022 Full Review Dan Einav Financial Times [Kate Winslet] gives what may well be the best small screen performance of the year in the arresting drama I Am Ruth. Rated: 4/5 Dec 14, 2022 Full Review Lucy Mangan Guardian As ever, I cannot wait to see what comes next – but only after I have had time to recover from this latest offering. Rated: 4/5 Dec 9, 2022 Full Review Christopher Stevens Daily Mail (UK) [Kate Winslet] proved once again that she is magnificent as a traumatised parent in a TV role. Amanda C I loved it, it's heart-wrenching and suffocating, Kate Winslet does everything at a superior level Rated 5 out of 5 stars 04/17/24 Full Review M T I love Kate W. She's a great actor. But this storyline could have been so much more detailed. The entire story was vague and sketchy. After thinking about the episode overnight, here are my questions: 1. Why did the daughter have no RL friends? No school activities or social life? 2. We see she's posting pics online- but what kind of comments was she getting? Bullying? Validation online, but not at home? 3. Ruth seemed overly comforting, accommodating & wimpy. Seems like she always gave in to her daughter, with few guidelines for her to follow, or consequences. 4. The only time Ruth actually confronted her daughter about the rude and abusive behavior towards her, she was enraged and unproductive. (pressure cooker syndrome) 5. What was the daughter's life & attitude like *before* she got "hooked on social media"? Was she (emotionally) vulnerable in some way prior to social media excess? 6. The entire premise leaves one to believe that being immersed in social media was merely a very small part of the daughter's problems because we didn't see what was actually happening there... But yet, the episode's synopsis described social media as a major factor in the daughter's problems. It could have been SO much better. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 05/16/23 Full Review Read all reviews
