“Fear is the cage and love is the lock.”

How does Naima do this every single time. This book hit deep and left a lasting impression. There’s just something about good single dads that get me. Maybe it’s because I lacked one in my life, but God gave me a good one through my husband. Our family feels very much like The Denisons.

From conversations about Black hair and what all is wrapped up in it for us, to the scene between the little girls Mom & Flo..Naima did things that i don’t see other authors do and for that she gets all the flowers. Job well done!!

Loved it and the bonus novella, The Husband Situation. Which was included. When you pick up a Naima Simone book, you can be sure to get a fantastic character driven story with lots of heat, but oh so much heart too. She always strikes the perfect balance. Throw in a doting single daddy, and I'm a goner. I loved being back in Rose Bend. It's one of those literary places I'd actually love to live. And I loved seeing Flo and Adam heal their hearts and find their HEA. Small town, single dad, workplace, age gap. So good. Happy reading!

"Fear is a cage, but love is the lock."

P.S. I also enjoyed the novella. Messy situation during the holidays. Delish.

In "The Single Dad Project," Naima Simone crafts a heartfelt and steamy romance that unfolds in the charming backdrop of Rose Bend. Florence "Flo" Dennison's return to her hometown takes an unexpected turn when a scorching one-night stand turns out to be none other than Adam Reed, the single dad leading the restoration project she's been hired to photograph.
Simone's signature touch is evident in the sizzling chemistry between Flo and Adam, creating a narrative that seamlessly blends passion, emotion, and personal growth. The characters evolve beautifully throughout the story, and Simone's knack for crafting compelling relationships shines through. Adam's determination for stability and Flo's youthful ambition create a dynamic tension that adds depth to the plot.
The real show-stealer, however, is Adam's sweet daughter, whose presence injects a wholesome energy into the narrative. As Flo becomes an unexpected friend to the little girl, family ties and trust issues come into play, adding layers to the story.
Simone navigates the complexities of single parenthood, romance, and personal development with finesse. The interactions between the characters are not only entertaining but also heartwarming. The seamless flow of the plot, coupled with Simone's skillful storytelling, makes "The Single Dad Project" an engaging and enjoyable read.
If you're a fan of Naima Simone's previous works or enjoy a romance that balances steamy scenes with genuine character growth, "The Single Dad Project" is a delightful addition to your reading list.

This was a cutesy single dad romance that dealt with a range of deep topics, from family life to parental abandonment and the lasting effects on the child, workplace issues and more! So, it was a mix of lighthearted and heavy at times.

I really enjoyed it and feel that single dad is a trope that I want more of. There’s just something about a big, strong man taking responsibility for his child, being soft & in need of some TLC that gets me going!

I really loved Alex’ sweet little girl, Jussy, and the relationship she formed with Flo. There was also a charming small town community in Rose Bend where everyone knows everyone. It was very much feel good with a little good steam!

I love how the author also touched on this whole “banned books” pandemic that is becoming more a nuisance than ever!

This was a pretty good read, but lacked the swooning I was looking for. The only swooning I got was between Flo and Alex’ daughter. It’s book 5 in a series, and I wish I’d started and become familiar with some characters referenced here.

I’m happy to return to the Rose Bend series, although somehow I missed two books. Rose Bend is a wonderfully diverse small town in the Berkshire mountains a few hours from Boston. The main family of the series is diverse as well with biological children mixed with adopted of differing races. This story is about 24 year old Florence “Flo” Dennison. Returning to her home town from being out of the country. She restlessly hooks up with a man she meets at a local bar. It turns out that her one night stand is the architect Adam Reed. He is in town for several months to oversee a restoration of a home that coincidentally she has been hired to photograph.

Flo was adopted into the wonderful Dennison family and grew up in a loving and supportive home. But she has insecurities and abandonment issues because after her mother died the man she knew as her dad left her with his brother. Her feelings are complex and deep. Adam has his own issues. He is a divorced father and primary caregiver of an adorable and gregarious five year old. He has father issues of his own. When Flo offers to help with child care it is one more connection between the two.

This is smartly written and not a light romance. There is passion, sweetness and a 13 year age gap. The characters have to change and evolve to have a chance to be together. I enjoyed the interactions with the other family members I remember from the first books in the series. And now I will have to seek out the books that I missed so I can be caught up. My digital copy included a novella, The Husband Situation, which is #4.5 in the series. It is a sweet, steamy, story and can be read as a stand alone as the main characters aren’t part of the Dennison family.

Where to begin?

When Flo Dennison encountered the sexy stranger in the bar, her only thought was one night. No strings. No baggage. But when she encounters him later and realizes they will be working together, things become a little awkward. Especially since that night never strayed far from her thoughts.

Adam Reed spent his entire life trying to be the best father possible for his daughter, doing his best to not let his past demons and baggage drag him down. But when he meets Flo, he knows that she is not someone he can easily forget.

Naima Simone did an outstanding job of pulling the reader into the emotions and wounds of both characters. We have the brooding but loving single dad whose biggest fear is not providing a strong stable environment for his daughter, and the strong seemingly confident woman striking out on her own who harbors her own fears of becoming too close to someone.

Within the pages of this story, we get a strong sense of family and of healing from past wounds and tension. Each character has work they need to do on themselves before they can truly be a solid partner for anyone else.

Naima has definitely mastered the art of 'one step forward, two steps back' in writing relationships. I am not ashamed to admit there were several scenes where I had to put the story down for a minute and come back when I cooled off. LOL. Did it kind of drive me crazy? Yes, but in a good way! I experienced every one of the characters ups and downs as though I was there with them. And although there were several times I wanted to reach out and pop Adam in the head, I understood.

This book had me caught up in my emotions for the past two days. I always love a trip to Rose Bend and this one was no exception.

I wish I had realized this was book 5 before I got too far into it because I think I would have enjoyed it a bit more having read the family background stories more.
That said. There was a lot happening in this story with Flo and Adam and his little girl Jussy.
There is a lot of backstop to digest with both main characters and at times I felt myself jumbling up specifics.

Overall I enjoyed the story and may go back and read the rest of the series.

I really did not care for this book for a variety of reasons. Both of the MCs have a lot of baggage relating to parental abandonment and while the MMC can’t reconcile his own trauma regarding his mother leaving (she died before he can locate her) Flo’s situation is wildly different and there is so much talk to justify why her father abandoned her after her mother died. The fact that she forgives him and welcomes him back into her life (as a friend, not a father figure) feels forced. I’ve mentioned that this series really gives off Hallmark vibes and this particular storyline and the way it was resolved gives off this forced happy vibe that just doesn’t ring true for me. People are allowed to feel hurt and mad and have boundaries, especially against people who have proven they are not reliable.

Secondly, the storyline with Adam’s ex wife who is also a bad, unreliable mother who flakes on her 5 yo way too much. Why Adam doesn’t set down stricter boundaries about how Jennifer behaves with their daughter is really baffling to me but also, I really hate the evil ex trope and then suddenly, Jennifer and Flo are besties and everything is cool?? Make that make sense. All in all, this book just didn’t feel consistent with the storytelling or the character development. Not my favorite by this author.

I loved this book. Steamy, sweet and incredibly heart melting, Flo and Adam's romance is 100% pure perfection. Fueled by a gigantic amount of heart and filled with lots of emotions, genuineness, humor, this is the type of read that latches right onto your heart, blasts it with an abundance of feels and then leaves you smiling as you swoon.

The Single Dad Project by Naima Simone is the fifth contemporary romance in the author’s Rose Bend series. I hadn’t read any of the others in the series when I picked up this one, but it reads well as a standalone and has me intrigued to read more about this small town and the Dennison family.

Photographer Flo Dennison is licking her wounds back in her hometown of Rose Bend. A two-week work trip to Thailand turned into more than just a disappointment, with harassment from her mentor permanently tainting the trip and her respect for him. A one-night stand with a sexy stranger (her choice) is just what she needs to take back control of her life.

Single Dad and architect Adam Reed has taken a temporary job restoring an old home in Rose Bend, and he goes to a local bar and meets Flo, ending up with her for the hottest night of his life. But as per Flo’s request, he doesn’t tell her anything about himself other than his real name (even though she’d said he could use any name he wanted). With no regrets, they both go their separate ways, only to be shocked to discover that they’re going to be working on the same restoration project. The TV show Vintage Reproductions has hired Adam as the architect for the restoration of the house, while Cole, Flo’s brother and the mayor of Rose Bend, wants her to take photos for a coffee-table-book to capitalize on the TV show choosing to film there.

Having never expected to see each other again, Flo and Adam pretend to meet for the first time at the house. But neither has forgotten their night together. Still, it’s not immediately obvious that anything more will happen between them. Adam’s prime focus besides his job is his five-year-old daughter, Jussy. His ex-wife is not a reliable co-parent, popping in and out of their lives, leaving Adam with the sole responsibility for Jussy’s upbringing, and he’s not looking for a new partner. Besides, he’s thirty-seven, and Flo is twenty-four. Not a problem for a one-night stand but too big an age difference - in Adam’s mind - for a relationship. As they spend time together though, it becomes more difficult to ignore their mutual attraction. With Adam planning to leave when the restoration is done, is there even a chance at something more than just a steamy affair?

In Naima Simone’s The Single Dad Project (Rose Bend #5), Florence Dennison returns to Rose Bend longing for distraction from an upsetting work trip with a scorching fling. When she sees the big, sexy stranger at the bar, she knows he’s the one. They share an intense, fiery encounter. Flo is surprised, however, by an adorable, sweet little girl befriending her and declaring to her father—Flo’s one-night stand—that she’s her BFF, especially since he’s in charge of the restoration project she’s photographing. When his daughter’s nanny suddenly becomes unavailable, Flo cares for Adaline instead. Despite dealing with trust issues and complicated family ties, Flo must choose whether she wants more with Adam.

I was excited to read this because I loved every minute of the Rose Bend novels I’ve read. Simone writes beautiful, poignant, intimate, and sexy stories that thoughtfully and deftly delve into the relationships people form/share and the emotions driving their choices and lives. The book’s focus is family dynamics and relationships, how they shape the characters, how they continue to affect their lives, and how they form emotional attachments. I love Simone’s writing style, specifically her fantastic use of language, turn of phrase, and vivid description that uses the characters’ senses to enrich the details. She drew me in from the opening scenes, investing me in their lives and journeys.

Simone excels at her characterization of resilient, complex, steadfast, but emotionally stuck, messy, frustrating, and all too human protagonists. You can’t help but root for them. By putting Flo, Adam, and the secondary characters in emotional, funny, tense, unfamiliar, unexpected, and uncomfortable situations and interactions with each other, she develops and evolves their characters and relationships while also contributing to the plot’s progression. The interactions between Adam and Flo and the people in their lives are essential in Simone’s books, as they help reveal who Adam and Flo are and develop and evolve them into who they become at the novel’s end.

While Flo gets the one-night stand she’s looking for, Adam makes her work for it. But he gives her the escape she wants and a passion that touches her deeper than she’s experienced. It leaves them both shaken and wanting more. Simone develops their relationship through steamy, emotional, sexy, and intimate conversations and interactions that draw them closer, revealing their hidden desires and flaws. I love how Flo and Adam grow closer once they get past the awkwardness and become friends.

Overwhelmed with feelings of anger, bitterness, and grief that go back farther and deeper than Flo is comfortable admitting, Flo avoids her close-knit adoptive family when she first gets home. She avoids deep emotional entanglements and hates feeling weak. Though she doesn’t want a relationship, sometimes she wonders how it feels to be loved deeply like her siblings, who are settling down. After a lifetime of feeling overlooked, it scares her how easily Adam makes her feel and how he sees her. An architect and single dad, Adam is a devoted father who focuses on ensuring that his daughter is safe and protected and her life is stable. While he has his share of trust issues stemming from his childhood and his marriage, he’s a genuine, honest, supportive, kind, encouraging, and caring man who treats Flo like a Queen. Adam and Flo share traumatic pasts that contribute to their connection. But being in each other’s lives, sharing with and listening to one another helps them to face and make peace with it and learn to move forward.

I love Adam’s irresistibly cute daughter. How she’s drawn to Flo and chooses her as a BFF is interesting. Perhaps she senses a kindred spirit. Adeline is energetic, fearless, and interested in photography, but it’s clear what she’s missing from her life and seems to find in Flo. Her scenes with Flo are so sweet.

The scenes with the Dennison family are always entertaining. I love how supportive and loving they are. The Dennison’s adoption of her is at the heart of Flo’s story and evolution. I will avoid spoilers here because I think reading for yourself is best. It’s an emotional and beautifully written exploration of family, what it means, and how deeply those beginning years of life can affect who you become and your concept of self later in life, likewise with Adam’s childhood.

One of the things I like about Simone’s books is how she explores issues affecting Black and underrepresented communities. She does so in a nuanced, informative, entertaining way tied to the novel’s narrative. Simone also can go from stomping on your heart and trying to hold back tears to making you laugh effortlessly, always deftly balancing the romance, humor, and angst to keep the story moving.

The Single Dad Project is an intensely emotional, sexy, funny, and steamy single-parent romance that explores divorce, single parenting, self-esteem, mother/daughter relationships, father/daughter relationships, family, .

Good book about family, love, and facing the past. The story opens as Flo returns home after a business trip that ended badly. In need of distraction, she has a steamy and mutually anonymous one-night fling with a stranger she believes is passing through. Imagine their shock when they discover they will be working together on a restoration project. Complicating matters, Adam's five-year-old daughter, Jussy, takes an immediate liking to Flo, declaring them "best friends."

Neither Adam nor Flo had any intention of getting involved with each other. Adam is determined to provide stability for Jussy, which does not include getting involved in a relationship with an expiration date. Flo avoids emotional entanglements, preferring to protect her heart. But neither can deny the attraction that pulls them together.

I enjoyed watching Flo and Adam's relationship develop. A tentative friendship developed once they moved past that awkward first post-fling meeting. Adam started to see Flo as the warm-hearted woman she was and noticed the beneficial impact on Jussy. I liked his sensitivity to the conflicts she experienced within her family, his willingness to listen and comfort, and his support as she worked through her feelings. But he also has his own hangups that keep him from opening his heart to the possibilities of a future with her. Flo's trust issues stem from her childhood and keep her from fully believing that she is loveable enough for Adam to want her in his life.

The more time they spent together, the closer Flo and Adam became. I liked how they started to share their pasts and listen to each other, helping each other move past their fears and doubts. But there are still some niggling insecurities that drive a wedge between them. I liked the unexpected source of Adam's awakening and what he did about it.

Adam's daughter, Jussy, is a huge part of the story. She is the center of Adam's life; giving her stability is his focus. I felt his frustration over his ex-wife's neglect and his worry over its effect on Jussy and her future. Her exuberance leaps off the page, and it is easy to see how it speaks to Flo's heart.

Another big part of the book is Flo's relationship with her family. Though she is close to her adoptive parents and siblings, she has insecurities that cause her to hold part of herself back. Then, a blast from her past returns, and she must decide if she's ready to let go of old hurts and move forward.

I loved this book. This is an age-gap, one night stand, sort of workplace sort of nanny romance novel. The opening we meet Flo who just got knocked down in life and left a dream photography job overseas because her boss and mentor got too handsy. She has come home to Rose Bend and decided to drown her sorrows at the local bar and sees Adam. She buys him a drink and suggests a one night stand, no names, and she tries to ensure that he is not from Rose Bend.
When Flo is rebuilding her life in her small town, her brother the mayor suggests her for a photography job photographing the remodel of a historical home in rose bend while a tv show files the renovation. Imagine Flo’s surprise when she discovers the architect is Adam and he is a temporary resident of Rose Bend along with his adorable daughter.

This book has all the feels, its part rebuilding your life, part confronting your past, part abandonment drama, and on top of all that is an adorable girl who is dealing with her own parental abandonment. Adam is 13 years older than Flo but in a lot of ways Flo is the more mature of the two, Adam is a great father but is carrying some serious emotional baggage from his family relationships and his ex wife. Flo is dealing with her own baggage, her long absent step dad has come back into her life and she is not dealing with the upheaval very well. She’s also struggling with her new reality surrounded by her overly supportive adoptive parents and siblings while navigating her feelings for Adam and his daughter.

This book is a must read. It’s heartfelt, emotional, and a joy.

Bonus, you get a cute novella included, I won’t review that here but I did do a separate review for the novella that is set in Rose Bend.

This single dad project is a great read and it gets one of my rare 5 star reviews.

So, you know my view on reading series' in order - well, I've done it again and grabbed this one, which is book 5. Yes! Book 5!! In the Rose Bend Series....
But I have to say that I absolutely loved this!!

Being a small town series (rather than specific character) I'm assuming that the other books will have the same setting and that some of the characters will be recurring - but the overall story here, focussed on Flo and Adam and their blossoming relationship.

What starts out as an anonymous one night stand - quickly turns into more - when Flo realises that she will be working with Adam on her new photography job whilst he overseas the renovation of the old house in Rose Bend.

I absolutely fell for this couple - and Adam's daughter Justine.
I mean, ok, Adam could be a little tetchy but these guys both have baggage and past trauma - but nobody can deny that the chemistry is there!

Flo was just a beautiful character - even with the traumas of her childhood or early upbringing - she still manages to be the most beautiful person, inside and out.
(on that note) I loved how the relationship with her "father" developed and also the way this all impacted on the way she reacted to and helped to heal Adam's trauma and worries and also his previous relationship with Jussie's mum.

This all sounds pretty heavy - but in actually fact, this was a really great, light and heartwarming read with some humour, lots of emotion, fun and frivolity ....yep, a fair amount of spice thrown on top too!

The Rose Bend community introduced me to a beautiful small town setting and I loved seeing the extended family members and other places around town.
I was totally immersed in this close community and can honestly say that I will be returning to catch up on the previous books in this series ....along with looking forward to more....

This is book five in The Rose Bend series and it is Flo and Adam’s story. When everything in Flo’s life recently had gone haywire she is looking for a distraction and that is when she has a explosive one night stand that certainly did the trick and knowing that she wouldn’t see him again made everything uncomplicated which she needed at the moment so imagine her surprise when she turns up to photograph a restoration project and standing in front of her is Adam her one night stand which just made her job even more difficult and complicated. Adam is an architect and single dad too his beautiful daughter and at the moment he is leading a restoration project so imagine his shock and surprise when Flo arrives to photograph everything. When Adam’s nanny doesn’t stay he is in a bit of a difficult situation so imagine his surprise when Flo decides to help out with his daughter and becomes her best friend and Adam can see how they have a connection which worries him because Flo doesn’t look like the type of person to settle down and he doesn’t want his daughter hurt in the process which now complicates everything in his life. The attraction and chemistry between Flo and Adam is really strong but with baggage, trust issues and insecurities how will they navigate and overcome what they are feeling to be able to get the happiness, future and family that they want and deserve. This really is a beautiful and emotional story that will have you turning the pages needing to know what the outcome will be for them all and I found myself really invested in their story. I really enjoyed this book and look forward to reading more books by this author in the future.

The Single Dad Project by Naima Simone
Narrated by Mari

I received an advance review copy for free thanks to NetGalley and Mills & Boon and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

Blurb

He’s the best mistake she ever made…

Back in Rose Bend after a work trip that went wrong, Florence “Flo” Dennison craves the kind of distraction only a searing fling with a gorgeous stranger can provide. And she gets it—in an encounter hot enough to leave scars. But satisfaction turns to shock when Flo realizes her one-night stand is leading the restoration project she’s been hired to photograph. And his sweet little girl has decided Flo’s her new bestie…Single dad and architect Adam Reed wants stability for his daughter, and he’s sure that Flo—young, ambitious, beautiful—isn’t looking for that. But when his nanny bails and Flo helps him out, it becomes impossible to keep their distance. Now, navigating tangled family ties and her own trust issues, Flo has to decide if one wild night can become so much more.

Bonus novella!

Brooklyn Hayes just woke up in Vegas married to her best friend, who also happens to be her sister's ex. Will they make it through a trip back home without spilling their secret…or falling in love?

My Opinion

Rose Bend is a place that is easy to dip and out of - I have read some of the previous books in this series but not them all, nevertheless it was easy to read this as a standalone. The Single Dad Project has been cleverly crafted and whilst there is a romance, this is definitely not the main focus of the book. A sweet but steamy read.

This was not an easy read for me. I am not sure why I thought it would be a more lighthearted book. There was a good amount of feelings of abandonment, being unlovable, and family trauma.

I don't know if I would read this as a standalone. There are so many references to other family members and their back stories, I had the sense I was missing something. I had read some of the previous Rose Bend books, but it had been a while.

I did experience some confusion. I thought Noah was Flo's biological father. Ian was his brother, who Noah left her with when he felt he couldn't care for her.

At some point while Flo and Noah were talking, he said he had to do some major wooing to get Flo's mother. He went on to say that she just didn't have herself to worry about but she had to worry about Flo too. He said Flo's mother felt like Flo was her first concern and priority and both of them were worth him putting in the time and effort.

So, the question I had was Noah her biological father or not? And if he wasn't, who was? Or, was Noah speaking metaphorically?

I didn't get much of a sense of chemistry between Adam and Flo. I felt like they were good together for Jussy, but didn't get any romance or heat vibe from them. The book seemed to focus more on the trauma than the romance or relationship between Adam and Flo.

I thought Jussy was great. She was full of life, energy, laughter, and the best part of the book. I would give this 3.5 stars.

I voluntarily read and reviewed the Advanced Reader Copy of this book received via Booksprout.

The Single Dad Project features "Flo" as she returns from her photography trip abroad and is looking to blow off some steam and Adam, a single dad who's just in town for his job. When the two run into each other at the local bar and instantly find the other attractive, they decide what's there to loose? They'll never see each other again and it's sure to be a good night.
Until, they both show up to work to their new projects only to find they're both stationed at the same house renovation as lead architect and photographer. Through working together the pair fight off their attraction and steamy memories from the night before working to stay professional and not catch feelings, even if Flo and Adam's daughter get to bond over braiding hair, and photography.
With heavy topics of parental death, abandonment, and sexual assault this book covers some heavy stories while being countered by endless hope and coping from the main characters.
I really enjoyed this story, the spice was SPICY, and the characters seemed to each have a lot going for them. I wish I got to see Flo and Adam together more, especially as their relationship grew, a lot of their scenes were interrupted by Adam's ex-wife or daughter which hindered their chemistry for me. The ending also just seemed rushed for me compared to the rest of the book.
This is the first Rose Bend novel I've read and I really enjoyed it! Will for sure be looking into the other books in the series!

This book answers the age old question: is it love or is it trauma bonding?

I really wanted to like The Single Dad Project but it really was a hard read for me. From the very beginning I got the ick, from Adam’s nickname “queen” for Flo to the 13 year age gap. And the fact that every single time he talked to his daughter he called her “baby girl”. Look, there is nothing wrong with giving your daughter a nickname but maybe call her by her name every once in a while? Nevertheless, I thought the rest of the content was cute so I persisted.

Around the 20% mark I started to realize that this book is a great example of telling not showing. The characters both went on and on about their past and their feelings and the people around them. I always felt like I was being info dumped. Nothing was felt or slowly realized, everything was just told. Eventually I started skipping to what I thought were the important parts.

There were also too many charters to keep track of. So I couldn’t connect with any of them. That might be my fault for reading this book first when it’s in the middle of the series; but I think mentioning like at least 10 out of the 25 characters was unnecessary.

I don’t feel like the main characters had any real chemistry or would last more than a few months. They had nothing in common, and didn’t bond over anything other than their sexual chemistry and their abandonment issues.

Disappointed that I couldn’t enjoy this the way I expected to.

Thank you Canary Street Press for providing me with an eARC via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

The book opens with Flo having a one night stand with Adam, who is a stranger in her small town and she expects to never have to see him again. Turns out, surprise surprise, he's in town for a job for the next several months and they end up working together. Their insta-attraction takes a few turns but eventually they fall for one another, and she also bonds with is five year old daughter. Along the way there's a lot of family and childhood trauma regarding parental neglect and abandonment that both characters have to work through. I commend the author for tackling big issues in a short romance novel, it's hard to pull off and ultimately I felt that much of it fell flat since the issues had to be wrapped up too quickly and neatly in order to obtain the necessary HEA. I realized after I started it that this is book five of a series, and although it can be read independently there were a TON of side characters that felt unnecessary but were presumably added to give series readers a glimpse of couples they'd previously read about. Overall I wouldn't put this at the top of your list, but it's a good addition to romance collections looking to add more titles with diverse characters that tackle big topics in addition to delivering some spice and love.

THE SINGLE DAD PROJECT is the fifth in the incredible Naima Simone’s stellar Rose Bend series. It stands alone well, although it does feel as if each new book outdoes the previous, so readers will surely benefit from reading them all!

Photographer Flo Dennison and single dad and architect Adam Reed have a relatively anonymous but unforgettable one-night stand. When they end up facing each other again as coworkers on a restoration project, they can see that their chemistry has abated not in the slightest.

Naima Simone is a writer of the first class. She creates characters that will make you laugh, cry, cringe, soar with joy… I sometimes have to stop while reading just to catch my breath and to savor how much her words move me. Her creations are so memorable. Flo in particular is smart and articulate. Though she’s been wounded, she’s bold and brave, and when she isn’t, her family and her friends and Adam help give her comfort and strength and support. Adam too bears scars, and it takes time and some determined people who love him to point him in the right direction and to begin healing. And his delightful daughter Justine? What a scene-stealer!

The Single Dad Project is a keeper, and I’ll be rereading it and the rest of the series as I eagerly await more from the talented Ms Simone.

It's a good thing I got my gym workout in before I started reading an ARC of Naima Simone's The Single Dad Project because by the 8% mark I was totally hooked. Figured I might as well toss my Monday to-do list to the side because not a single thing was going to be accomplished until I finished this book.

Much like the other books in the Rose Bend series, once I was immersed in their lives, these characters refused to let me put their book down until I turned the final page. Even then, the characters continued to live in my mind. Simone filled their journey with steam, humor, endearing moments, emotional turmoil, complicated family dynamics, unexpected friendships, heart-tugging romance, and a whole lot of "yes, please, may I have more?"

I loved the family dynamics in this book that played out alongside the romance between Flo and Adam. It added texture, conflict, and unexpected layers to their journey as a couple as well as their individual evolution. And I absolutely adored Adam's young daughter, Jussy who pretty much steals every scene she's in, along with hearts.

If you haven't yet visited Simone's Rose Bend, The Single Dad Project is a great place to jump in. Then go back and read the rest of the published books - and novellas - in the series because, yes, they are all that good.

Adam's Flo - It was supposed to be just one gloriously decadent night of passion. Two strangers in the night, never seeing each other again. But they aren't so lucky. They will be working together and his little girl adores her. But they each have emotional baggage to unpack. He's a divorced dad whose determined not to be like his own father - cold, distant, unloving. She's still experiencing the loss of her parents after over two decades, one to death, one to abandonment. The MCs have much to fix within themselves to get to their HEA, but they pull it off with courage and love.

A wonderful story filled with loving families, great friends, and a supportive community. The characters are absolutely delightful, especially little Justine, whose booming voice I still "hear" in my head. Adam's ex even makes an appearance and it's not an altogether bad thing. Emotional at times (lots of hugs), funny at times (Jussy and Grace's diner performance to Adam's chagrin), always a great read. Ms. Simone also brings the heat, right from the beginning. No slow burn here. The author's nods to pop culture are fun and add an element of realness to the story. Rose Bend, I'll be visiting you again.

The romance portion of this book was a wonderful story. Flo's family and background was a little confusing. I haven't read the prior ones so I was confused until finally about half way through, the author told of the dynamics of her family. I felt the author could have given that sooner for people like me who haven't read them. It is that reason that I deducted a star.

Now Adam's little girl, Justine (Jussy), was the star of the book! I just adored her. Adam, was a great character as well. Flo was a little difficult to understand. She seemed to be a bit of a contradiction. Her "words" of affirmation were spot on for Adam but she really needed to apply some of them to her situation with her step-father.

This story is told in a dual POV format. That is a favorite of mine. It really helps me to better understand and connect with the main characters. Being as I have never gone through her life situation, I really had to depend on Flo's thoughts to understand her actions and conversations at times.

This is a sexy read so just a word of caution if you get offend by that.

The Single Dad Project
By Naima Simone
Back in Rose Bend after a work trip that went wrong, Florence “Flo” Dennison craves the kind of distraction only a searing fling with a gorgeous stranger can provide. And she gets it—in an encounter hot enough to leave scars. But satisfaction turns to shock when Flo realizes her one-night stand is leading the restoration project she’s been hired to photograph. And his sweet little girl has decided Flo’s her new bestie…
Book Description from Amazon

The Narrator did such a good job keeping the story flowing. This was my first time reading the Rose Bend Series. I have not read the other 4 but after listening to The Single Dad Project I’m curious to read the others. The story had just enough steamy parts, had some really good gems of advice that we all can learn from about healing and facing fears. It was also really great reading about a book from the single dad perspective and dating. I would absolutely recommend.

Thank you to HarperCollins UK Audio and Naima Simone for the opportunity to listen and review The Single Dad Project.

Well Naima Simone does it again in Rose Bend!! She brought us another fabulous couple and took us on their journey to happily ever after. I loved it.

Florence is one of the Dennison kids. She is independent, talented and strong willed. She is at a bar and notices Adam, a big tall drink of water with hazel eyes, a beard and chocolate skin. She sends him a drink and he comes over to talk to her. Therein begins their connection. These two agree that they’re not looking for anything serious. Well the joke was on them because the hookup was so darned good that neither could forget about it.

Adam and Flo have baggage that they need to deal with. Despite their connection and how perfectly they relate to each other, they have to make peace with their past. I totally loved this book. It was about letting go of fears, embracing life, forgiveness and healing. I also loved the family connection. This was a 5 star read and I will definitely revisit this story.

Emotional turmoil at it's best! Naima Simone is always quick to capture my heart with her quaint smalltown Rose Bend characters who don't hesitate to plow through whatever obstacle sits in their way of love and happiness. The Dennison family is full of humor, angst and outspoken characters who love hard and support each other through thick and thin. I love every minute spent with them! Always a joy to watch the next sibling succumb to their passionate love story.

Flo is going to go down as one of my favorites in the family because of the softer side we get to see in her childhood pain that's uncovered in this story. I really enjoyed watching her come into herself and be able to heal as she opens her heart to receive all that she's ever deserved and more.

I highly recommend this book as well as the entire series to anyone that loves a small town romance filled with passion, love and a snarky family who loves hard and isn't afraid to speak up for what they believe in. Always rewarding to visit Rose Bend!

Ok so, honesty first. I would never in a million years opt for this book to buy. But I’m forcing myself to try to opt for books that I’d never normally choose, to try something different, and so here I find myself having just finished The Single Dad Project and I didn’t hate it! Infact I really enjoyed it.

Cute funny and poignant with some serious messages. In was a bonk buster for sure but the story surrounding it was poignant, wholesome and sweet, that’s where my thought process was skewed, I’ve never married the two before now. Unfortunately it’s the 5th in a series and I haven’t read any of the others. However that made absolutely no difference for me. It easily worked as a standalone, infact it wasn’t until I came to write the review that I realised it’s part of a series.
Loved the audio narration too.
4stars 🌟

Ps. There’s a lovely novella at the end. Bonus!

Another in the Rose Bend Series, in which Florence/Flo Dennison has just returned from a trip gone bad overseas and that she is desperate to try to forget. When she meets a stranger at the bar and invites him home for a one-time fling, she never expects to see him the next day on the new job site her brother has hired her for. She's a photographer and taking before-after shots of the renovation of a Victorian house that sits pride of place in Rose Bend, and the architect and manager of the renovation is the same guy she climbed like a tree the night before. Oops.

Then there's his adorable 5-year-old daughter, who captures Flo's heart even as she fights her attraction to Adam. Can she ever get him out of her system when what she really wants is to continue to care for little Justine, even if it means she can't have Adam, too. That plus the dilemma of having two dads when what Flo really wants is not to hate one while feeling guilty about the other keeps the reader guessing in this tale of unforgettable characters.
