Longtime New England Patriots reporter Mike Reiss joined ESPN in September 2009. He reports on the Patriots for all ESPN platforms, regularly making television appearances on SportsCenter and NFL Live, with his signature work coming on ESPN.com’s NFL Nation Patriots blog.

Reiss has covered the Patriots since 1997, starting at the team’s official newspaper in Pete Carroll’s tenure (1997-1999). He then worked for the MetroWest Daily News in Framingham, Mass. (1999-2005), before moving on to the Boston Globe (2005-2009). He joined ESPN in 2009 to help the company launch ESPNBoston.com, which quickly became a credible voice in the local community.

Prior to joining the Boston Globe, Reiss’ willingness to embrace technology and think outside the box from the traditional coverage model made him one of the first reporters in the country to blog on an NFL team 365/24/7.

One of Reiss’ most rewarding stories came in 2012 when offensive lineman Matt Light retired and chose Reiss to reveal that he played most of his career while battling Crohn’s Disease. In 2015, offensive lineman Nate Solder did something similar in revealing a testicular cancer diagnosis to Reiss, a reflection of the professional respect and trust built between player and reporter. In 2019, the National Sports Media Association recognized Reiss with the co-Massachusetts Sportswriter of the Year award.

A New England native, Reiss is a member of the Professional Football Writers of America (PFWA) and graduated from the University of Massachusetts in 1997 with a degree in sports management. He is married with two children, lives in suburban Boston, and devotes time to support Boston’s Children’s Hospital.
