Reviews
- Crypticpop here. I was a kid when "Can't Explain" came out. As a continuing 60s pop nut I still like finding songs I haven't heard before or ones I remember differently on the radio. I bought this for the singles I remember but can't find on any other collection except big box sets. Not my thing. So on to the review. I haven't played all of it but I could only give 4 stars. The first few songs are incredible. The remastering makes these better than the 45s. But "Happy Jack" is a little subdued; "I Can See For Miles" is once again a problem. I have other CDs and the stereo version has too much echo. Not so here, but the guitar is a bit subdued. On some songs it's the bass. A little too inconsistent. But the real reason I bought this is for "Call Me Lightning" and my favorite from childhood, "Substitute." I guess I've rewritten my own history again because the bonus US version is not what I remember. Somewhere at the old family house is my 45. I'll have to see. Still, this CD does give enough better remastering to make me satisfied. If you get it for a decent price go for it.
- wow!!! i cant belive i waited so long to get an origianl 2002 UK pressing of this gem sealed w/ all the hype stickers etc etc BUT the only thing that makes this different from the 02 us pressing is it does not have a special mini lp replicated 3rd bonus track cd HOWEVER all in all you get the same tracks that the bonus extra mini lp replicated sleeve got in the us, the gem & the thing that makes this uk polydor exclusive edition special is the 2 videos from chartlon uk 1974, i have the original us press, the original japan press ( wich did not come with the bonus tracks) and now the original uk press wich i have decided to leave sealed.
- There's an acoustic version of Happy Jack as a bonus track on the 1995 reissue of A Quick One, so I think there's an error on the packaging saying that it's previously unreleased, unless there's two different acoustic version?
