- Edited 3 months agoThis is probably Garfunkel's best solo album; only Watermark is in the running, and it lacks the high points of this one. Its biggest flaw is common to all of Garfunkel's solo work; the production and arrangements are just a little on the sterile side, which seems to suck some of the life our of Garfunkel's performances, which he definitely puts his all into. The song selection here is a little uneven, but a lot more consistent than most of his albums, making this a satisfying listen. His version of Stevie Wonder's "I Believe" is breathtaking, and among his very best recorded moments. "Disney Girls", "Waters of March", and "I Only Have Eyes For You" are well suited to his voice, and he is in peak form. "My Little Town", the S&G reunion song, feels a little misplaced among the lusher arrangements here, but it's a fine song. The best moments on the album have an agreeably contemporaneous pop sound, in contrast to his sometimes stodgy sounding debut album. The rest is kinda meh, but the singing is fine. Unlike Paul Simon, Garfunkel has never managed to make an undeniably great album on his own. But this is a good one.
- Probably Garfunkel's best solo album. "My Little Town" reunites him with Paul Simon. "99 Miles From L.A.", "Disney Girls", "I Believe (When I Fall In Love It Will Be Forever)" and the title track are highlights, but the most surprising and rewarding song is Antonio Carlos Jobim's "Waters Of March". This pressing is impressive, the soundstage is incredibly detailed and clear, with excellent range and depth from top to bottom. My copy plays nice and clean, with very faint surface noise at times.

The performances, songs, and recording are all top notch. This is an audiophile level pressing. If you’re a fan of Garfunkel or just classic 70s light-rock albums with A-level studio players in general, don’t miss this one. Plenty of NM copies floating around for cheap.referencing Breakaway (LP, Album, Stereo) 86002
Well .... I have to wholeheartedly disagree. This is an absolutely beautiful album. Art Garfunkel sings like he always sang, like an angel. Mostly cover versions, but completely worthy of his interpretations. How someone like Garfunkel could release the absolutely cringeworthy Bright Eyes just 4 years later is beyond me, as this album is very very far removed from that. The arrangements too are simply gorgeous, with Richard Hewson and Del Newman getting involved and adding some sumptuous strings on some tracks, as well as his estranged former buddy popping up on the familiar My Little Town. The two Stephen Bishop covers are particularly beautiful and The Waters Of March supply us with his opposite vocal range, sung in almost monotone over the Jobim melody. And Andrew Gold pops up too, lending his superb multi instrumentation to a few tracks.
Please don't diss this album out of hand, it's not throwaway at all, and very much deserves 40 minutes of anyone's time.referencing Breakaway (LP, Album, Stereo) 86002
Exactly as you would expect a 1975 Art Garfunkel album to be. It is making me want to hit things with hammers.referencing Breakaway (LP, Album) PC 33700
What a great mastering and pressing. And a great album, to boot.referencing Breakaway (SACD, Hybrid, Multichannel, Stereo, Quadraphonic, Album, Reissue, Remastered) CDSML 8537
Not only is the stereo mix of this album improved on this SACD over the previous CDs, but the quadraphonic mix here is really special. As the previous comments says "magnificent"referencing Breakaway (LP, Album, Stereo) PC 33700
I love that one of the most common, easiest to find, and cheapest albums I've ever seen on discogs is also a totally fantastic album with great mixing and production. Sounds fantastic on my set up. Hope Art isn't this underrated for long, but hope this album stays cheap and easy to find forever.- Side 1 runout Side 1 Runout PAL 33700 1B TML-S 20C 1S from copy in hand.
