St. John Cantius Catholic Church | Cleveland

WELCOME!

DISCOVER GOD, BEAUTY, AND GOODNESS.

We are a Catholic Church in Tremont, Ohio.

Welcome to the St. John Cantius website. I am glad you are here. St. John Cantius has been serving the Roman Catholic community since 1898 on the corner of College and Professor Ave. The parish continues to grow as older homes are being renewed and apartments continue to be built on all sides of our parish. There is a return to city life and St. John Cantius is in the middle of the excitement. Tremont is a thriving community that is rich in diversity, culturally multifarious, and ethnically enriching. St. John Cantius was opened to serve the ever-growing Polish immigrants over 125 years ago who arrived in Cleveland to work in the industrial flats. We continue to share our Polish heritage with the neighborhood. Our annual Polish Festival is one example to experience the ethnicity of our Polish heritage. As the neighborhood continues to attract new residents, we welcome everyone into our parish family. Know there is always room for you here.

Pastor’s Thoughts

Pastor’s Thoughts

Liturgically we begin what the church calls ‘Ordinary Time.’ It has always puzzled me that a season of the liturgical year would be called “Ordinary Time.” It comes from the Latin “Tempus per annum, or time through the year.” Ordinary time are the numbered Sundays...

Pastor’s Thoughts

The Eucharist is the most central part of the Catholic Church. Christ feeds and sustains His church in the reception of His body, blood, soul, and divinity every time we participate in the Eucharist. In 1263 a German priest, Fr. Peter of Prague, made a pilgrimage to...

Pastor’s Thoughts

This Monday we celebrate 'MEMORIAL DAY' a day that was instituted by Major General John A. Logan in 1886. It was about three years since the civil war ended that the head of the Grand Army of the Republic, Gen John Logan established what was called then “Decoration...

Parishioner Experiences

I attend St. John Cantius regularly and very much enjoy this church. Father Roach is a great preacher and I never drift when listening to his sermons. The church is beautiful. If you are near the Tremont area, I highly recommend checking out St. John Cantius even if you cannot attend mass there.

One of the most beautiful churches I have ever seen and the mass was just as spiritually fulfilling

YOU’RE INVITED.
