Overall, the school offers a lot of opportunities for students, however I don't believe many students apply themselves and it shows in the curriculum. For instance, the general education courses are very watered-down and simplistic. Most teachers do it in order to pass their students and allow them to graduate rather than preparing them for college. Their college courses however are in fact up to par in preparing students for more rigorous courses that they may experience in higher education. Things I've noticed is that their music and arts programs are very proficient for the most part. Of course there can definitely be some improvement in every area of the school/ corporation, it isn't too bad and has proven to produce some successful individuals as a result.
During my time at Merrillville High School so far as a Junior, my experience has been a mix of ups and downs. There has been plenty of times where my peers have let me down, not being mature, or just randomly not doing what they are supposed to. I would like to see more of my peers engaged in more class activities, and academics. Whenever me, as the vice president and the president of our school develop plenty of activities plenty of students engage. Those are the great times that magnify my great high school experiences so far.
A school in which administration truly cares for well-being of everyone in the building. Most teachers are realistic and out effort into making sure you learn what they've teaching. Clubs are diverse with teachers who care for the club and how well it does.
