I packed my own bedding, towels and even some cleaning items because there were so many reviews about how dirty and smelly the hotel was. Yes, it's an old hotel, but the bedding appeared freshly washed and there was no odor in the lobby or the room. Paint is chipping off the walls and it is dated, but I'll live with that to save up to $200 per night!
There were no extras except for the free parking and the free breakfast is mini muffins, but that's fine if you're just looking for a place to sleep.
For those who may be concerned about the "shady area" my advice would be not to go to Atlantic City at all. I'm from a larger city, so maybe I'm not as jumpy as some, but I never once felt threatened and didn't witness any questionable behavior.
Hope this review helps for those of you who are unable to shell out major cash for other hotels and want to be close to the attractions but are hesitant to stay here because of other reviews.
The two positive things I have to say are : The staff is very nice. It is very close to the boardwalk and the beach. But that, didn't cut it for me.
Everything else was just crazy.
I travel a lot for work. I sleep in hotel rooms at least twice a month. I've stayed in cheap hotels. I rented out rooms through discount website before. That was by far the worst experience ever.
The building is pretty much falling apart. It's rusty. There are huge sections where the paint is falling off. The balcony is in an angle... It doesn't look like it will hold up much longer. There were some very funky smells in the lobby, in the room, in the elevator, in the staircase...
But all of this doesn't matter too much as long as the room is clean which was the definite contrary.
The cleanliness of the room was absolutely terrible. Like... it was... insane. Especially for the price of the room. 75$ a night... Come on !
There was dirt on the bathroom floor that must have been older than me. Everything was a little greasy and sticky - the counters, the walls, the furniture, the door... unacceptable.
In my country, they close apartment and office building in better conditions for unhealthiness.
I can not possibly think that places like this exist. The public showers at the beach are cleaner than the room we got.
Pretty harsh... But... It's not worth it.
Pros:
1: Close to the beach, about half a min to a min walk.
2: Mini fridge and microwave in room.
3: Free parking.
4: The price.
Cons:
1: Staff at the front desk was quite rude.
2: Booked a non smoking room, but they gave us a smoking one instead. Got to the room, toilet sit was missing, the furnitures were a mess, 1 chair even short of a leg, bathroom got dead cockroaches all over, A/C didn't work, lock wasn't really much of a lock, so we asked to switch room, and they gave us a better one, but with bad reception from the free WiFi, although the beds are comfy, we still slept with the blanket cover over the bed sheets.
3: At night, it's not really safe to walk by the people, since the motel is located in a shady neighborhood, although the general store is next door to the motel, would be hard getting in without bumping into any one of them.
Not a good place to stay overall.
The room was relatively clean, never noticed any bugs of any kind and the carpet although worn was vacuumed with clean bed sheets.
The elevator going down to the lobby area was disgusting with a sign saying no more than two people.
Because the room faced the road it was very noisy until at least 2 am which was a real turnoff.
It wasn't the cheapest rates with paying over a hundred dollars for the room but it was a big enough room with a working tv.
The worse part was the shower small with a stopped up tub.
I would advise to avoid as I'm sure you can find much better.
The room was clean for the most part. There were a few stains on the comforter (didn’t bother us, but I know some people get freaked out by that) and we had some problems with the TV (it had a mind of its own), but other than that nothing major. One thing we were kind of upset about… we always leave the Do Not Disturb signs up because we’d rather they didn’t go in and clean at all during our stay. But in the morning we couldn’t find one of those signs in our room, so we left, assuming that they would not come around to clean. We closed the curtain because we left all of our personal belongings right out in the open (a laptop, my purse, etc.). But when we got back to the room later, our curtain was wide open! The maid had opened it when she went in to clean. If I leave the curtain closed it means I wanted it that way.
Aside from that, I do have to say, the older gentleman at the front desk was very, very nice and extremely helpful. Checking in was pleasant, and he always smiled and said hello when you came in.
All in all, because of the location and the walk, I don’t really think this is the best place for families with young children. But if you’re not super picky and don’t mind the lack of luxury, this motel is fine, and a cheap option for a vacation in AC.
P.S. If you get a chance, stop by Constantino’s right next door for breakfast. The service was great, and the food was pretty good!
"Just don't rent a room there. It is not worth it. Pay an extra 20-30$ a night to get a better place."Read full review
