Xherdan Shaqiri has been directly involved in exactly half of Switzerland’s 24 goals across their last four appearances at major tournaments (Euros + World Cup), scoring eight goals and assisting a further four.

Since François Omam-Biyik scored in a 1-0 victory over Argentina in the opening game of the 1990 World Cup, Cameroon (Won zero, drawn three, lost three) have failed to win any of their opening World Cup matches.

The Cameroon great, now 70, was at the Al Janoub Stadium to receive a special award from Fifa earlier as the oldest player to ever score in a World Cup Finals.

There were moments in the first half when I thought Cameroon were shading it.

But they ran out of gas and ideas as the game went on.

Switzerland will be happy, but they've got to face Brazil. Cameroon will have to do something unbelievably special to get through.

Switzerland are now unbeaten in their first World Cup match going back across six tournaments. Their last defeat came in their opening match back in 1966 against Germany.

Meanwhile, Cameroon have lost each of their last eight games at the World Cup; only Mexico have ever lost more games in a row in the competition’s history (nine between 1930 & 1958).

Three points in the bag for Switzerland.

Haris Seferovic goes through on goal for the Swiss but his shot is blocked by the diving body of Cameroon defender Jean-Charles Castelletto.

Cameroon with a chance to get the ball in to the box after some good play from Vincent Aboubakar but the cross is poor and Yann Sommer claims the ball.

Switzerland win a corner down the right. There's no rush to take it and when they do it goes short and they keep the ball nicely as the clock runs down.

Ricardo Rodriguez goes off as Switzerland bring on a marginally taller defender Eray Comert, whose extra one cm of height will come in handy dealing with back-post crosses.

Granit Xhaka stings the palms of Cameroon goalkeeper Andre Onana from distance. Decent save.

Another Cameroon attack fizzles out with a poor final ball in from the right that is well overhit. Not a man in green in sight when that dropped.

Cameroon's issue is that if they don't score here, there is a good chance they aren't going through.

They can't expect to beat Brazil. This is the most important moment of the tournament.

What have Cameroon got left in the tank?

A change for both teams. Moumi Ngamaleu replaces Bryan Mbeumo for Cameroon and

Fabian Rieder comes on for Ruben Vargas for the Swiss.

Lovely play from Collins Fai, who throws in a Cruyff turn on the edge of his own box to send a Swiss forward off for pie in the stands.

Cameroon could do with that at the other end though.
