      Critics Consensus

While Alien was a marvel of slow-building, atmospheric tension, Aliens packs a much more visceral punch, and features a typically strong performance from Sigourney Weaver.

Jay Scott Globe and Mail It is a far more traditional exercise in scaring and thrilling the moviegoer; essentially, it re-constitutes the war movie, and in so soing marries a feminist Rambo to Star Wars. Dec 6, 2022 Full Review Bob Thomas Associated Press Sigourney Weaver is merely terrific... When she straps on her armament to do battle with the aliens, she makes Sylvester Stallone look like a pipsqueak. Mar 15, 2019 Full Review Melanie McFarland Salon.com Beyond dispute, however, is the film's timeless worth as a cathartic work, especially in terms of its accidentally commentary on the sexism of the corporate structure. Oct 4, 2018 Full Review Allison Rose FlickDirect Weaver was an excellent casting choice for the Alien saga as she has a tough exterior that reveals a soft and vulnerable, underside. Rated: 5/5 Mar 13, 2024 Full Review Don Shanahan Cinephile Hissy Fit Podcast We're glad James Cameron took this one bigger, stronger, and faster from where it came from. Jan 18, 2024 Full Review Preston Barta Fresh Fiction 'Aliens' is an exhilarating sci-fi action film with a reach that many films still aspire to. It's a visceral and intelligent work that punches up the original's haunted house setting with a cinematic energy that leaves the mouth almost permanently agape. Tanya P This was my favourite movie when I was a little girl and still is, hands down! There are so many amazing little things that transport me into each scene, for example, when Hicks mouths 'where they are' and then smirks, Hudson's hysterics (my gosh they are good), and the artistry and realism of the aliens, loader and aircraft. All the cast from Sigourney, Michael Bein, Bill Paxton to Paul Reiser are just spot on. To the casting department, you could not have done a better job. My hat off to you all. Jane Feinberg Mike Fenton Mary Selway Judy Taylor Ellen Ripley is an absolutely amazing character. Such a breath of fresh air to have a strong female lead and I loved that Michael Bein recognised her smarts and strength. Strong female and masculine healthy energies. James Cameron, just YES. That's all I'll say. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 05/29/24 Full Review christian a Possibly the best SCI-FI thriller/ Action movie of ALL time which gave birth to the female rambo heroin. BRAVO to JAMES Cameron. ALINET WAS GREAT BUT ALINES TOOK IT TO THE NEXT LEVEL OF AWESOME!!! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 05/28/24 Full Review Arnold S Best Sci Fi movie ever in my estimation. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 05/23/24 Full Review Average P This is a great sequel. Benefits from not merely giving us more of the same but completely switching genres from claustrophobic horror movie to war movie. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 05/23/24 Full Review Stan D One the best sequels ever made. Cameron is a master and his refusal to us CGI made the movie even better. Just an incredible action movie Rated 5 out of 5 stars 05/21/24 Full Review Estevan G Is a masterful blend of sci-fi horror and action, featuring a strong female lead, Ripley, whose resilience and intelligence set a high standard for heroines in cinema. The film's intense atmosphere, coupled with its anime-influenced visuals, creates a gripping experience. The creature design is both terrifying and iconic, making "Alien" a must-watch for fans of strong character-driven stories and immersive, suspenseful narratives.
