Stranger Things has taken the world by storm, and it’s pretty much all anyone is talking about right now. With the final two episodes dropping on July 1, 2022, Stranger Things 4 star Mason Dye stopped by Showbiz Cheat Sheet to chat about his experience filming one of the most popular TV series ever.

‘Stranger Things 4’ actor Mason Dye joined the cast as Jason Carver

Netflix’s most popular series, Stranger Things, often introduces new characters each season and Stranger Things 4 is no different. In season 4, fans meet several new people around Hawkins, Indiana, including Jason Carver, played by Dye. When Dye sat down with us to talk about all things Stranger, we asked what it was like joining such a massively popular show. His answer is one anyone who’s ever been the new kid at school can relate to – scared.

“It was terrifying. That’s the best way to put it. I had about one day of being excited, the day I found out I got it. After that, absolutely terrified,” Dye laughed.

However, Dye also quickly explained how welcoming the rest of the cast was to him and other newcomers. Of course, we immediately had to know who he hung out with most on set, and the answer will please any and all Eddie Munson and Lucas Sinclair fans.

“Caleb, for sure. I had so many scenes with Caleb, so every day I was working, he was usually working.” Dye said before teasing, “So it’s like Caleb and I got so close with a lot of deep talks.”

Dye also became friends with Joseph Quinn, saying, “Also, Joe Quinn who plays Eddie. I got super close to Joe. We both got out to Atlanta I think it was like three weeks early or something before filming. We had three weeks of just hanging out nonstop. We’d go on dates, went to the aquarium.”

Dye gave us one word to describe ‘Stranger Things 4’ Volume 2 – ‘Insane’

Everyone knows the creators of the show, Ross and Matt Duffer, keep plot points under lock and key. Dye couldn’t say much about the last two episodes, but he did give us one word to describe them.

“I haven’t seen episode 9 yet, but, Insane. That’s really all I can say about it because even after episode 8 ended, I was like, it is just – it’s insane,” Dye told us.

He continued, I know there is that there is like an altercation between Lucas and Jason, which we do see in the trailer and we see Lucas giving Jason back a mean right hand.”

Jason Carver plays into the Satanic Panic aspect of the season

Part of Stranger Things 4 focuses on the Satanic Panic of the 1980s. Jason believes Eddie murdered his girlfriend, Chrissy (Grace Van Dien), and manages to get the entire town of Hawkins riled up about her death. He believes Eddie’s Dungeons and Dragons club is responsible. We asked Dye if he used real-life cases from the Satanic Panic to get into character, but he says he didn’t.

“No, honestly, I didn’t. I didn’t even know it was a thing. The Duffer Brothers are the first ones that told me this was an actual thing that happened. So, I had no idea. I really didn’t read up on it or do any research. I just kind of had them fill me in on everything I needed to know and talk about how we wanted to approach it. That was really it. A lot of my preparation for the role was just watching Tom Cruise movies and watching like preachers online,” the actor replied.

Thankfully, it worked like a charm because Stranger Things 4 star Dye’s character, Jason, is easily one of the most frightening characters in the series. All episodes of season 4 are currently streaming on Netflix.
