Mahie Gill: Many people have been upset with me in the film industry

Actor Mahie Gill doesn’t get affected by what people think or say about her taking up less films. In a career spanning across 18 years, she has done 30 films, and that too not just about any project that came her way.

Has she ever taken up any film just to fill up her calendar dates? “If you see my work for the past 10 years, you will see maine bauahut hi kam kaam kiya hai. It all depends on what excites me, that is very important for me. If it doesn’t do that, I can’t do that project, because it is not justified. If you go on set and are not excited, you won’t be able to perform. There is no point doing this, I would rather want to do something interesting,” says the 45-year-old, recently seen in the web show Your Honour season 2.

The actor, who turns a year older on December 19, doesn’t have too many wishes for her birthday this year — just one, and that too in terms of her craft. “Mujhe milte hi nahi romantic roles! People think I cannot do romance. I am waiting for something romantic to come my way now,” she exclaims.

Even when she has stuck to her ideals and beliefs, it is said that egos are fragile in showbiz, and turning down a project might sometimes end up rubbing people the wrong way. The actor says that has happened with her many times.

“People have been upset with me, this has happened a lot of times. Ab main kya kar sakti hoon if it is not exciting me. At the same time, bread and butter both are necessary. Luckily, I am okay in that department. It’s not like I have to work because I have to earn my bread. I am a very satisfied person in life. Yeh bhi karna hai, voh bhi karna hai nahi hai. That is the one reason I am able to say no to a lot of things I do not want to do,” Gill ends.
