The Vijayawada constituency, one of the 25 Lok Sabha seats in Andhra Pradesh, has eight assembly segments. Since 1989, Vijayawada's diverse electorate has alternatively elected Telugu Desam Party (TDP) and Congress candidates to the lower house of the Indian Parliament.
The 2024 battle is even more interesting, for it has two brothers representing two different parties and fighting for electoral glory.
Voting is currently underway at the constituency. At 5 pm, the voter turnout in Vijayawada was at 67.44%.
List Of Candidates
The Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party (YSRCP) has pinned its hopes on Kesineni Srinivas aka Nani, the incumbent MP, who was elected on a TDP ticket in 2019. Displeased with Naidu's reluctance to nominate him again, Nani switched to the YSRCP and secured his candidature.
Adding intrigue to the contest is his younger brother, Kesineni Sivanath or Chinni, who has been fielded by the TDP. The Congress party, meanwhile, has handed the ticket to Valluru Bhargav.
2019 Results
In 2019, Kesineni Srinivas, the then-TDP candidate, defeated YSRCP's Prasad V Potluri by a margin of just 8,726 votes.
