Mission

Resource Health Services exists to offer compassionate care to men and women experiencing an unplanned pregnancy. Our focus is to holistically empower the family unit through advocacy, education, mentoring and discipleship. Our goal is to positively impact families now and for generations to come.

Notes from the nonprofit

A NOTE FROM OUR CEO: Understanding our culture is crucial as you partner with us to accomplish our mission. At Resource Health, we express our culture in the intangible ways we demonstrate our values, beliefs, and practices. Our desire to see lives and souls saved is only eclipsed when compared to Jesus’ own desire. In the three decades I’ve served him in this ministry, I’ve learned that we are gentle truth-tellers, and the Holy Spirit is the one who “closes the deal.” We’re doing more than saving a child’s life: we’re inviting Jesus into the lives of all we serve, believing He will grant them repentance and lead them to the knowledge of the truth, in all things, for a lifetime. When you partner with Resource Health, you’re making an investment—strengthening families, changing futures, and building communities that will share this culture that, for many, begins right here.

Our programs

What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?

Pregnancy Resource Centers

The Pregnancy Resource Centers provide free pregnancy testing, client advocacy, proof of pregnancy verification, and MO Health Net application and instructions. Services are provided by website, phone or walk in appointments. All positive pregnancy clients are assessed for the assistance that is needed and eligibility for additional services including ultrasound and the Resource Health educational program. It is estimated that we will perform nearly 1800 pregnancy tests in 2023 from our combined locations. An estimated 80% of those tests will be positive. We provide an initial assessment to determine the clients’ greatest needs. Community referrals are made as needed along with information about our continuing pregnancy and parenting education program.

Population(s) Served
Young adults
Pregnant people
Young women
Men and boys
Adolescent girls

The Resource Health Ultrasound program is staffed by trained medical professionals who are able to introduce mother and baby via the window to the womb known as ultrasound. National statistics indicate that when a woman experiencing an unplanned pregnancy is allowed to see her baby through ultrasound, 80% of the time she will choose to carry the pregnancy. At Resource Health centers, ultrasounds are offered, free if charge, the same day or by appointment for women who are making tough decisions regarding an unplanned pregnancy. Ultrasounds are offered for women whose babies are no more than 14 weeks gestation and administered by trained RN’s. The procedure allows the woman and her family their first introduction to the baby. In 2023 Rachel House centers will provide an estimated 1,200 ultrasound scans free to our clients.

Population(s) Served
Young women
Older women
Adolescent girls
Pregnant people

The Resource Health Education program for women offers a combination of group classes and one-on-one sessions facilitated by an education coordinator. Clients who choose to take advantage of this program will be given the opportunity to learn practical ways to care for themselves and their babies during and after pregnancy. Each client will visit our center 16 times during a 16-week period as they work their way through the curriculum. Emotional and spiritual support is offered during one-on-one sessions with our education staff. The education program is supported by a paid staff education coordinator and her team of volunteers. There is one education coordinator at each of our four locations.

Similarly, we offer an education program to expecting fathers, which includes six weekly group classes and additional one-on-one sessions facilitated by a fatherhood program coordinator. There is one paid staff fatherhood program coordinator at each of our four locations.

Population(s) Served
Young women
Adolescent girls
Men
Adolescent boys
Pregnant people

Realizing that the Fathers of babies from unplanned pregnancies are often disregarded, our Fatherhood Program has been established to give the Father a voice as he sorts out his feelings regarding the best decision for his child.  When a Father accompanies a women to Resource Health, he is greeted by a male advocate.  A confidential conversation is offered and pertinent information is gathered from the father's perspective.  Needed resources are offered, the Father is invited to meet his child through the window to the womb of ultrasound and encouraged to share his feelings with the mother of the baby. Knowing that, in any circumstance, he will have an important role in the child's life forever, our goal is to prepare Dad for the new role he has to play as the child's father, whether the couple stays together or not. We also offer an education program to any expecting father to help equip him for success.

Men and boys

Charting impact

Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.

Rachel House Pregnancy Resource Centers, DBA Resource Health Services exists to offer compassionate care to men and women experiencing an unplanned pregnancy. Our focus is to holistically empower the family unit through advocacy, education, mentoring and discipleship. Our goal is to positively impact families now and for generations to come.

Our 4 locations offer free STI testing and treatment, pregnancy tests, life affirming ultrasound, pregnancy and parenting education classes, individual case management, community resource referrals and mentoring opportunities to those we serve.

We are building on a rich history of service to the Kansas City Metro area since 1992.

We are funded by individuals, groups, business, and foundations that share our worldview and beliefs in the sanctity of life.

Resource Health is a network of 4 pregnancy centers in Lee's Summit, Independence, Midtown KCMO and the Northland of Kansas City. Our administrative offices are in Lee's Summit. We are a 501c3 governed by a 9 member board of directors with over 40 paid (full and part-time) staff and volunteers.

Originally founded by the LIGHTHOUSE of KC in 1992, we became an independent non-profit in 1998, known as Rachel House Pregnancy Resource Centers. In April of 2021 we rebranded and are becoming known as Resource Health Services. We are supported by thousands of individuals in the greater Kansas City area, along with churches and businesses. These passionate and committed partners are the foundation of our financial ability to provide our growing services.

Resource Health is affiliated with state and national organizations that offer both advice and accountability. Our finances are reviewed annually by Emerick and Associates and, we are a member of ECFA. We have our policies, procedures and finances legally reviewed annually.

Over the last 29 years we have served over 40,000 men and women who are experiencing an unplanned pregnancy. We are now meeting the children of the women who came to us many years ago. Some of these children are now young adults who have completed their education, entered the workforce and some are starting families of their own. When we help one woman have her child, how many lives will she and her child affect? The extent of our accomplishments is difficult to comprehend.

Resource Health services are free to our clients. We offer, pregnancy tests, ultrasound, and a 16-week education program that addresses pregnancy, parenting and healthy lifestyle issues. Individual case management visits help find needed resources for social needs. Our Fatherhood parenting program started in 2018 and has increased in attendance over the last 3+ years. Fathers are provided an 8-week program along with case management and a male mentor.

In June of 2021 we began STD testing and treatment for the most common sexually transmitted diseases. This will allow us to serve the sexually active population and become a trusted provider before and after, if pregnancy should occur.
