What does the via Roma in Turin have in common with the via Concelazione, a street running from San Pietro to the Tiber. They have the same architect and a similar fate. The architect's name is Marcello Piacentini. Mussolini entrusted him with not only these, but also other important projects in Italy - the famous EUR quarter for the world's fair in Rome or the Palace of justice in Milan. To pave via Roma Piacentini took out an entire block, as he did in Rome during the construction of the via Conciliazione. Whether it was necessary to do this is a debatable question. Supporters of preserving authenticity say no. However, in this case, we would not have a lot of things in the world - the Boulevard Haussmann in Paris, the Boulevard Andrassy in Budapest, the Victorian center of London, etc. What is done is done. Now via Roma is an exhibition street in Turin, like via del Corso in Rome. Expensive restaurants, boutiques, and the public that came out to show themselves and look at others. And only tourists like us spoil this atmosphere of solemnity and high style, scurrying from the station to the Piazza San Carlo. What to do? Tourists choose the shortest route from point A to point B. Via via Roma.

What a grand street. I'd no idea Torino had such grand colonnades rivalling those of Bologna. Sad that they are given over to exclusive shops for the wealthy flaunting wealth when there is so much inequality in the City just streets away. The vista at either end is fantastic and look along the streets crossed to see equally stunning architecture and at the end of streets the green hills

Via Roma is one of the main streets in Torino, the main city in Piedmont Region, in the North of Italy. It links Porta Nuova train station and Royal Palace, also if you walk for this street, you can see Piazza Castello (Castle Square) and Piazza San Carlo (San Carlo Square). So, I am sure you walk following this street, because some of the most important buildings to visit are here. Also, the street has a lot of shops, bars and restaurants and it has some arcades in each side. Very nice place.

I can do without all the fashion brands but the Via Roma exemplifies why Turin is such a magnificent city. The sheer beauty of the thing gives a clear backbone to the ordered design of the centre. On its own it is impressive but the way, with other streets, it holds the place together, is an epitome of a cultured townscape.

One of the main thoroughfares starting near the train station and ending at Piazza Castello. Very pretty and intricate buildings with columns. Lots of high end shops, hence the grandeur!

Historic street with emblematic outlets and most importantly major monumental edifices on either end. What recontextualises most italian cities lacking that blend. Neither very long nor slack at any part, Piazza Castello and San Carlo to be explored too. Turinese architecture and sequential fusion with the modernis 30's. Outlets of Hermes caliber and status in a crisp and clean historic setting.

Via Roma is an important thoroughfare linking Porta Nuova railway station and Piazza Castello. It is the main shopping street of Turin with a range of high end stores. The original section is of modernist 1930's style and was created by architect Marcello Piacentini. It is an impressive street and was almost deserted during my visit in July 2020.

One of the most important streets in the historical center of Turin, Via Roma runs through the beautiful Piazza San Carlo, connects the Piazza Castello with the station at Porta Nuova and is lined with lots of expensive clothing boutiques. We spent some good time wandering up and down the street and did some "window shopping" meanwhile.

A very Grand street for shopping. A lot of expensive shops here. Spotlessly clean.
Perhaps one of the most characterful shopping streets in Europe.

Very nice street, where you walk in a kind of gallery. The nice brands for clothes and accessories are present.
Also the restaurants at the squares are very good and do have a terrasse to sit outside
