- Edited 11 months agoIn retrospect, this was Nikka's 3rd-best album (behind 1996's 'Butterfly Rocket' and 2008's 'Pebble To A Pearl') and another proven winner as far as I'M concerned! After stumbling artistically on her 2001 US major label debut 'Everybody Got Their Something' (made too many unnecessary mainstream concessions on that one for my taste), she returned to the studio and put in a far more focused effort that did away with the tacky Hip-Hop/R&B clichés in favor of top-notch sidemen that really brought her genuine funk/rock/pop/soul roots to the forefront. Still waiting on a proper reissue that includes those three key tracks that were featured on the 2004 advance promo version of this album instead of the official 2005 release: I Don't Think We've Met, I'm Gonna Leave You, and The Last Time. If THAT one ever gets a proper release (preferably without the godawful Copy-Protected software that eventually caused the Virgin label to fall out of favor with both their signed artists and respective fanbases), could very well be in contention with the other two albums mentioned as being Nikka's most accomplished studio work to date. Until then, one can hope that day will finally come...
