With more than two decades on a musical journey, Pete Downing has explored a wide range of instruments and genres. From his early days tinkering with percussion and trumpet, Pete eventually found his true passion in the strings of the guitar.
Pete’s songwriting process is deeply personal, often inspired by moments from his own life, scribbled on napkins in coffee shops or tucked away in tattered notebooks that have traveled to quiet corners of the world.
Many of these songs expose his vulnerabilities, as he believes that music should resonate with the human experience, which is not always neat and tidy. Through his music, Pete reminds listeners that they’re not alone in facing life’s trials and tribulations.
Versatile New Hampshire Musician
Since 2008, Pete has had the privilege to perform both as a solo artist and as part of various bands. Pete is a versatile musician who dabbles in different music styles; his music often finds its roots in the soulful traditions of the blues. What ties his songs together is the emotional connection they evoke. They’re a reflection of the feelings he’s experienced over the years–whether it’s excitement, fear, joy, or sorrow.
Aside from his music, Pete holds a certificate in small business management and he wears multiple (winter) hats, including as a National Ski Patrol Snowboard Patroller, AASI Certified Instructor, and USASA Snowboard Coach. These roles provided Pete with invaluable experience in team dynamics and event organization. He’s witnessed how music can unite people, much like the camaraderie on a snowy mountainside.
Being a professional musician isn’t just about playing notes for Pete. It’s a responsibility he’s shouldered to guide people through life’s ups and downs. Whether sharing a conversation during a set break, making people dance like nobody’s watching, or moving them to tears while celebrating a beautiful moment, Pete helps others appreciate the present moment, relish their past experiences, and look forward to what lies ahead.
