After spending two seasons at the University of Louisville, defensive tackle Jermayne Lole is headed to the transfer portal.

Lole, who announced on Jan. 19 that he was going to return to U of L for another season, has been at spring practice with the Cardinals the past month but has not been doing many - if any - live reps when the team does 11-on-11 work.

The 6-foot-3, 310-pound defensive tackle was a transfer from Arizona State before the 2022 season. Lole drew NFL Draft buzz for his play with the Sun Devils, before missing the 2021 season with a triceps injury. He appeared in one game during his first season at U of L before being sidelined with injury.

In 2023, Lole appeared in 12 games, starting nine. He finished with 19 tackles, including five for a loss and 1.5 sacks, while also logging a QB hurry and a pair of pass breakups.

In three seasons at Arizona State, Lole was a productive interior pass rusher, totaling 123 tackles (20 for loss), 11 sacks, and eight pass breakups.

Prior to Arizona State, Lole was a 247Sports Composite three-star recruit out of Long Beach (Calif.) Poly. He was also the No. 24 strong-side defensive end in the Class of 2018 and chose Arizona State over offers from Washington State after taking official visits to both San Diego State and Washington State.

Lole joined the U of L program late prior to the 2022 season, committing to the Cardinals in late May. He arrived during the summer and at the time had to work himself into shape. At the time of his commitment, Lole was the No. 2 prospect available in the transfer portal, according to 247Sports.

In a season-opening 31-7 loss to Syracuse, Lole was the backup to Dez Tell, who played the most snaps of the linemen with 35. Lole played 25 and graded out as the No. 6 player on the defensive side of the ball, according to Pro Football Focus. But he was injured late in the game and never played the rest of the season.

The transfer portal officially opens on Tuesday and will be open through April 30.
