A photo taken during DC Studios' presentation has resulted in a first look at the early title treatments for all the upcoming DCU movies and TV shows, including the likes of Superman: Legacy and Laterns!

On Monday, Warner Bros. invited a handful of reporters to its lot in Burbank to share the first details about DC Studios' DCU slate. They were placed under a strict embargo, but obviously had time to spend 24 hours writing up their coverage of the event (not everyone is as quick at bringing you breaking news as ComicBookMovie.com).

Someone in attendance, however, decided to take a sneaky photo during James Gunn and Peter Safran's presentation, and that's now found its way online!

We won't name and shame the person responsible as we're sure you'll appreciate checking out the very early (and likely temporary) title treatments for each DCU movie and TV show. From that classic font for Superman: Legacy to the fact Batman isn't mentioned anywhere above or below The Brave and the Bold, there are lots of talking points.

If these are used, you'll find no complaints from us, and the comic book inspiration on display here is a good indication that the DCU will be very different from the DCEU.

While Tuesday's slate reveal was accompanied by a great video message from Gunn, many fans have complained about the lack of fanfare surrounding what ended up being little more than a press release and timed reports from the trades.

Dropping some title treatments, very early concept art, or even just a logo for DC Studios would have gone a long way in generating even more excitement. The reaction from fans has been mostly positive, though there's been the expected mixed response to at least a few of the projects chosen to be part of "Chapter 1: Gods and Monsters" by Gunn and Safran.

Which of these early designs is your favourite? Let us know in the comments section.

The logos kinda suck but I'm sure it's just for the presentation 💁

I will get excited when the Superman movie comes out. If they blow that one, then my interest in the new DCU will drop to near zero.

Without a great Superman, they have nothing.

@DocSpock - I'm sure Gunn will find a way to make it goofy like what he did to Drax in guardians.

@sully -

Unfortunately, quite possible.

@sully - I disagree - or at least I "hope" to disagree. Yes, Gunn has a silly sense of humor of which I can appreciate. But, I also think he or I at least hope, that although its OK to inject a sense of humor into the movie, he should understand what Superman means to the integrity of the entire DCU slate. Now, since its based on Clark Kent, I fully anticipate some silly antics to show he is a normal person. But, the story will likely be very serious. That's what I hope anyway.

They definitely need to take another stab at those. I think they’re fine for comic book logos.

Loving the direct comic logos but I’m sure some of these are placeholders.

Superman one needs to stay though! Really can’t get better than that logo.

Certainly looks like a way to diversify beyond the classic core characters. Which is probably a good idea. The Authority is interesting.

@Rosraf -
That's the best thing about it for me. I was never a DC guy so I'm not familiar with the fringier characters. Making a good Superman movie is really hard because there are so many expectations. Creature Commandos? The Authority? That's what they are going to need to differentiate from the MCU, which is a good thing.

@Goldboink - exactly

It’s a bit of an odd line up. I feel like most of these should come later on like a lot of the entries in Phase 4. It’s basically like having some of those in Phase 1.

This wasn't a "leak" with that small of a room they'd be able to stop people from taking pics, anyways I like the Superman: Legacy font, it looks like the Schuster font

I admit I never liked Gunn.

But that slate layed out like that makes me imagine he just saw Kevin Feige do it for 15 years and just was like 'how hard can it be'.
StSteven
StSteven - 2/3/2023, 5:27 PM
@TheManWithoutFear - Yeah, I thought something similar (aside from the "never liked Gunn" part as I don't really have a problem with him either way and have enjoyed what he's done in the MCU so far).

The way that that presentation of their timeline is laid out is very reminiscent of how Marvel does it for their phases and Gunn is using the term "Chapters" instead of "Phases", but it's not surprising, considering I recall that Laslov & Co.. at WBD said that they want to follow the MCU model for the DCU. Which I can't fault them for, because it's a proven model to success, assuming that you have all the right people in all the right places. On that note, while DC was so obsessed with finding their own "Kevin Feige-type", I hope that they have also found (or will find) their own "Sarah Finn-type", as she's an often overlooked reason why the MCU has been so successful with her (usually) spot-on casting choices.

@StSteven - She’s done an awesome job IMHO.
StSteven
StSteven - 2/3/2023, 5:47 PM
@RolandD - Yep, she's a real gem. I'm trying to think of an occasion where I disagreed with her casting choices and right off the top of my head I can't think of anything...

And, ya know, that's really the key to getting the fans onboard with any movie of this type. IF it's an original movie with original characters, that's one thing. But in the CBM world, you're dealing with characters that by and large have been around for decades and the fans have preconceived notions as to who should play those characters in live action (within certain limits). So getting that right is the first major step in getting the fans excited about a new CBM.

Like with the new F4, all eyes are currently on who they're going to cast, and it's going to be key. Like, I'm more interested in who they're going to cast as the main 4 than the actual plot (especially we kinda have an idea of what the plot is going to be anyway). And that plot is only going to be for the first movie. The characters are presumably going to be around for a decade or longer.

So, no pressure Sarah, but you'd better not f**K that up (but she hasn't let us down so far so I'm not too worried).

They kinda weak but if it’s temporary I get it

These are definitely temporary, as the Superman one is taken directly from the comics' logo.

Lowkey don't want Superman to be 25yrs old tho tbh, seems pretty unnecessary (plus I still think David Corenswet would be perfect to play him and he'll be just about turning 30 by the time the movie comes out ffs).

Fogs - 2/3/2023, 4:21 PM
@Superspecialawesomeguy - they need someone young but who looks a bit older, then he could be supes for a long time.

They need someone who can play the character for a decade or more and have an interesting character arc.

@Superspecialawesomeguy - out of all the rumoured casting I like Elordi a lot more than Corenswet. And the former is 25 now, so he's got that going for him.

Not that an actor's age matters though. They play characters that are younger in age all the time.
Superspecialawesomeguy
Superspecialawesomeguy - 2/3/2023, 6:25 PM
@bkmeijer1 - I think Elordi is a decent enough actor but tbh I just don't feel an ounce of Clark Kent vibes at all from that guy, which is the main reason why Corenswet is my top choice because if you've seen Netflix's Hollywood you'd know that he was practically radiating Clark Kent energy in that show imo.

bkmeijer1 - 2/3/2023, 6:40 PM
@Superspecialawesomeguy - can't say I have seen the show (nor really planned to), so I don't know. Do believe you though.

That said, I kinda hope they pick someone unknown. Same with Batman and Flash (Wally West).
