Everything about the day was fantastic including the weather. We arrived at 9 am and were greeted by the very knowledgable and enthusiastic Safety Officer Liz Dodds (who we had met the previous day at the International Bomber Command Centre where she also works). There was a presentation by Louise explaining the history of the centre and family connection to Christopher Panton who made the ultimate sacrifice piloting a Halifax on a Nuremberg raid in March ‘44.
Followed by briefings of what to expect by our pilot for the day and safety by Liz.
We were on the morning taxy run myself stood behind the flight engineer in the cockpit with my son stood in the mid turret position.
Awesome isn’t enough to describe the experience. The sound, vibration and even smell all added to the event I would recommend to anyone for their bucket list.
The afternoon provided opportunity to view all the other exhibits on the grounds, including seeing their B25 and Mosquito. And to view the second groups taxy run from the field.
On top of the day befores visit to the IBCC this gave further reinforcement to the dedication and sacrifice (which have been ignored by governments and the establishment since WWII) of Bomber Command. The access is good and would be suitable for wheel chairs . I wouldn’t recommend it for young children as there is a lot of information to take in and obviously no interactions with the planes . - fish1232014Sheffield, UK21 contributionsVisited here yesterday, 3 adults. Wasn't expecting too much for £13 per person and took our time as we thought we would be done in half an hour. So wrong, it was so educational and lovely. Excellent value for money. Obviously some of the animals are hidden or sleeping so you won't see all of them but part of the fun was trying to spot them. The signage was handy as in a place like this it is easy to divert and then miss something out. Would have been nice to see a member of staff wandering around just catching up with visitors to make sure we hadn't missed anything or explained why we couldn't see certain things. However, appreciate it was a week day and not quite into the main holiday season. Still managed to see 24 different species of bird, a fox, a plethora of seals off the coast, and my husband saw some deer too. In only a few hours. There are a few interspersed hides, which gave some respite from the damp and were peaceful. There is so much to explore, so we will be back again. - Julia G2 contributionsExcellent place to visit and accessible for scooter users. I only went because my husband wanted to go, I thought I'd be bored. How wrong could I be! I thoroughly enjoyed myself. There was so many interesting things to see and I even got to climb up onto Tom the ancient steam engine. The staff (of volunteers) were very friendly, chatty and knowledgeable, making the whole experience even more interesting. Afterwards we enjoyed a extremely tasty cheese burger in the cafe, I just wished I'd had room for a slice of the rather delicious looking cakes they had on offer. The welcome staff did just that. The unprepossessing entrance gives into one end of a hall, and we were made welcome with the sensation of visiting, say, an elderly relative for the first time. We didn't know each other, yet, but were nevertheless pleased to see each other.
The audio tour was explained, a little of the background to the Hall and ownership given and we were given free rein to wander around. My query about the table was answered fully and completely, and led to more explanation about carvings, which had a distinctly Gibbons-esque quality from a distance, but were made by a former owner.
The table, it turned out, was recent, and from a single fallen oak, yielding a one piece top around 6 metres in length. The whole with cunning breadboard ends and pleasantly chunky underframe on turned pillars.
The rest of the Hall is full of interest, and made the more so by the audio introduction to each room being made by the owners Claire and James, with their comments and reminiscences 'We used to roller skate in this room' lends a very human level of appreciation totally missing from many similar locations. Knowledgable and approachable room stewards who were happy to explain and discuss details.

Obviously very professional and knowledgeable tour guides. Thank you. My two grandchildren were so interested ages 9.12 and so quite taking it in especially the Ross tiger tour. History of the vikings and fishing history had them asking questions which was great . Myself my wife and daughter also enjoyed every minute of it . My grandchildren live away pleased on their visit this time we finally visited the centre. Aside from the house and tree the science centre has an array of activities to peak kid’s interest.

While it's sad that these animals all have a past they needed rescuing from it's so, so good to see that people and organisations like Ark are there to give the animals a happier next chapter. We were able to meet and help feed two of the resident skunks, ferrets and the porcupine, and get up close with some of the reptiles! Touch training and feeding with some of the big cats and foxes (including some chin scratches with the foxes!) was an incredible experience - never imagined to be so close with these majestic creatures. There’s so much to do including goat walking, bird talks, reindeer feeding, soft play, outdoor play and lots of different animals. You really can spend the whole day here. We also found the cafe extremely good value. All staff are friendly and have really thought about how to please everybody on a day out. I used to come here as a child myself and it’s great to see how much has been invested.
The only negative was the lack of vegan options for lunch, this meant we left much earlier than we wanted to as we were hungry!
For the price of the tickets you’d really want to spend a good few hours or more here, and it would be easy to do as there is lots to see. But unfortunately we needed to eat so had to cut it a bit shorter.
Maybe even the option of chips in the cafe would be a great addition for everyone! The detailed booklet, which gives loads of information, is a must and only £1. It is certainly a museum for people of a certain age who can remember these cars flying around on our roads but I am sure people of any age would enjoy it too. The memorabilia took me back to my childhood - my wife and I spotted loads of things we used to have!
