CSK Head Coach Stephen Fleming lauded GT seamer Mohit Sharma for his match-winning spell during Match 59 of the Indian Premier League 2024 on Friday, May 10 at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. Notably, the right-arm seamer came into the attack in the 13th over of the CSK’s chase and ended a threatening 119-run stand between Daryl Mitchell (63 off 34) and Moeen Ali (56 off 36) by dismissing them in back-to-back overs.

The 35-year-old further got the prized scalp of Shivam Dube (21 off 13) in the 17th over to completely derail CSK’s chase. Mohit finished with figures of 3/31 in four overs as GT won the game by 35 runs. Following his team’s loss, Fleming praised Mohit fot changing the course of the game in the middle overs.

“There were times when we were dominating as well but it was just of a high risk and then credit to Mohit Sharma. At one point we were actually on track and Mohit Sharma came in and bowled an outstanding four overs to really stunt it and that was sort of the game. We were sloppy so there was probably 15 runs there but the other 20 were the highly batting and good four overs from Mohit Sharma,” said Fleming in the post-match press conference.

Further speaking ahead, Fleming jokingly said that he’s sick of seeing Sai Sudharsan due to his impeccable record against CSK. Notably, Sudharsan scored a brilliant hundred (103 off 51) along with captain Gill (104 off 55) to help their side post a massive score of 231/3 in their 20 overs.

I'm sick of seeing Sai Sudharsan: Fleming

“I’m sick of seeing him (Sai Sudharsan) actually. Final last year he played beautifully as well, I think it was a 96 and watched him closely. He’s obviously got good connections around the Chennai area but I think he’s a wonderful player. Today was superb that six early on over long off was a great way to start your innings and that was a sign of intent,” he added.

Meanwhile, with their win, GT have kept themselves alive in the playoffs race having ten points to their name from 12 matches. However, they will depend on other team’s results as well to finish in top four on the points table.
