- FernGlasgow, UK567 contributionsreally unusual place to visit. sadly it was closed when we were here in april but the walk here alone was very good. it isn't actually as much as it looks like it is from the photos - it is very doable if you take it slow. enjoy :)Written June 28, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - JackieUnited Kingdom103 contributionsI absolutely loved our visit to this castle. It seems to have been sympathetically restored, and the information was provided in English. The exhibitions were very interesting, and there were so many nooks and crannies to explore.
One unexpected highlight was the peregrine falcons nesting in the towers of the basilica.
Although dogs are not allowed in the castle per se, the ladies on the entrance let us bring our four pups into the courtyard and even brought water for them. My hubs and I then visited the castle one at a time. To view most of the castle, you have to climb steep stairs, which would not be suitable for dogs in any case.Written July 30, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. The tour of the mines was amazing (we spent a bit more than an hour roaming the tunnels and familiarizing ourselves with the history of mining) and our tour guide was very engaging. He spoke good English and provided just the right amount of information about the history of mining techniques. Very fun and informative. Everything was just right.Written June 16, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Asistentka I1 contributionMe and my family had amazing time in this special place. We have learned some interesting facts about Štiavnica and mining. And I can not forget about virtual reality thanks to that we could travel milions years back and see a dinosaurus. We recommended for every age group.Written February 26, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- M VHarpenden, UK63 contributionsDefinitely will recommend. It is amazing place of wooden carvings and history of Banska Stiavnica. Exhibition is in small room but packed with miniatures and carving figures. Each has the story to tell. Small entry fees but absolutely worthy.Written October 23, 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.

The saga of the Coburg family made me realize their contribution not only to the development of Europe, but also their legacy for the presentWritten December 20, 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - laczkozsuDebrecen, Hungary2,136 contributionsAfter climbing up the streets and stairs to the bulding of Mining Academy we went into this nice park to relax. This is a huge area (7 hectares). It was used for practical courses for students from 1850's. Now it's open for public, free entrance. It's well cared for and clean with lots of green. We saw some exotic plants and trees: e.g.sequoia or cedar. We was walking and relaxing. Our favourite part was the tiny pond with beautiful water lilies.Written July 14, 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - JackieUnited Kingdom103 contributionsA beautiful 'wild' swimming spot right in the midst of a woodland.
It is quite popular, particularly at weekends, but like so much of Slovakia, it's remarkably clean, and there are beautiful fish in the lake.
It is a steep uphill walk from town.
There are lots of walking paths in the area, so it's a lovely place to cool off after a hot summer walk.Written July 30, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Both are nice historic places, we loved them. In the centre of this town you can found the Main square with the Holy Trinity Column which was built after the great plague epidemic (1710-11). This square was the most important forum of the town in the past. Nowadays there are some restaurants and bars around and you can taste the good Slovak beer or wine.Written July 14, 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Soko37Budapest, Hungary11,935 contributionsExcellent family trip, we parked at Pocuvadlo lakeside parking place. Started to climb through the forest and cliffs getting on the top. One hour trip to be on the top, great scenery and possibility to have a beer, snack or lunch in the cottage on the top. There is chance to use the fireplace, possibility to sit and relax. Half an hour distance there is ruin of old Sitno castle. The track is steep and not easy one, pls do not forget good shoes and rain coat if any chance of changing weatherWritten July 23, 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - laczkozsuDebrecen, Hungary2,136 contributionsThis Castle has an other name, too: Girl Castle. It can be seen from everywhere in the town because it lies on a hill. It was built between 1554-1571 against the Turkish attacks. It belongs several ghost- and witch-legends. It has 4 corner towers and 24 cannons. This Renaissance Castle has a rich history, and some important functions: eg.: clocktower, belltower etc. Today it's a museum. You can see lots of flags and arms there. The view is breathtaking, you can see the whole town.Written July 17, 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
