Phoebe Cates and Kevin Kline's love story is in its fourth decade.

The actors met at an audition in 1982, later linking up at an event in New York City and marrying in 1989.

”When I first met Phoebe, I remember thinking, ‘She’s too happy to be with me,’ ” the actor told Entertainment Weekly in 2002. “ ‘She’s too enthusiastic about life. .... What’ll we talk about?’ ”

Seemingly a lot: they'll mark their 35th wedding anniversary in 2024, and together share two kids and a passion for acting. Though they live a somewhat under-the-radar life in New York City, where Cates runs a store on the Upper East Side of Manhattan, they've stepped out for many premieres and events together through the years.
