No pretensions. No putting on airs. No bombastic laser-light extravaganzas. This is a workingman's band for Bud-swilling, football-watching, head-bobbing, barroom-brawling rock fans. There will neither be a doctoral thesis regarding the musical profundities of Foghat Live, nor any critical acclaim from the music establishment for this band. All I can say is, I saw Foghat live in 1976 in a mega-concert that also featured Ted Nugent, the Outlaws, and Aerosmith as the headliner, and Foghat simply blew the other bands away with their intensity and the fun they had just jamming. Sometimes profundity merely bollixes up a good time. Unfortunately for Foghat, by purchasing their fiery live album you render the rest of their record catalog unnecessary.

Worth the price of admission: Exceptional versions of "Honey Hush" and "I Just Want to Make Love to You", and the quintessential barn-burning eight-minute version of "Slow Ride."

Foghat was a touring blooze rock 'n' boogie machine throughout much of the wild '70s. The no-frills band repeatedly criss-crossed America after breaking stateside in '75 behind the ass kickin' Fool for the City LP. Racking up mile after mile, the hard charged Fogster's played virtually everywhere in North America for years to come. The band was a primary draw in the heartland, where Foghat built a solid fan base of rustbelt blue collar beer drinkers 'n' pot smokers.

The group's high-octane 1977 release, Foghat Live, is an earful of gritty, heads down, hard hitting tracks from the veteran British boogie quartet. Foghat was known for their inspired and energetic concert performances, the essence of which is captured on the no-frills Live LP. We are talking about a sweaty, volume-cranked concert experience here.

Behind the cool guitar work from the locked-in pair of "Lonesome" Dave Peverett and Rod "The Bottle" Price, Foghat hammer home such monster summer cruisin' cuts as the air-pollution-here-I come "Fool for the City", the riff-heavy "Honey Hush", the eight-minute foot-to-the-floor "Slow Ride", the raucous "Road Fever", and an amped-up cover of Willie Dixon's "I Just Want to Make Love to You", on the under-rated concert recording.

Foghat kicked major ass in the '70s... the Live concert recording is a testament to that fact. Unfortunately the big brass at Bearsville Records limited the inspired stage set to a single album. The double live set was a staple of the dazed 'n' confused decade, which the energized Live should have been, as Foghat had a wealth of strong songs to draw from by the time the group cranked out the concert recording. At least there was no time for a drum solo, and the marketing department scored big time with the cool die-cut sleeve design. You don't get killer artwork like this with compact discs... give me the super seventies.

Hard rockin from the crazy 70s
Foghat Live is a 1977 live album by the veteran British boogie quartet Foghat. Recorded during selected dates in May of 1977, using the RCA mobile unit, when Foghat performed twenty-three dates over the course of the month, Live captures Foghat blowin' out a sweaty, volume-cranked concert experience here. It is Foghat's bestselling album with over two million copies sold, and certified double platinum in the United States.

The worst thing about this Live album is the short running time. They easily have enough songs to make this a double LP.

Foghats open Live with "Fool for the City", which is chased by the rockin' "Home in My Hand". Next an eight-minute cover of "I Just Want to Make Love to You". The aptly named "Road Fever" is also included on the live set. The "Honey Hush" is next, the album closes with the classic cruisin' "Slow Ride".

Recommended for lovers of high energy releases who loves an earful of hard hitting tracks.

This release has more energy in it than a nuclear reactor, it's a
must have for any true BOOGIE lovers. The only thing that is negative
is that it should have been a double album. You won't be disappointed with this one.

I Just Want to Make Love to You
Probably my favorite live album of all time and it's only 6 songs (4 are killer). It is my favorite Foghat album. The high energy explodes out of this record. It also has a cool die-cut album cover. Many bands' live albums just don't have the same punch as their studio albums, not Foghat, I prefer their live sound!

One of the best live album ever recorded. Competent playing, but above all, truly inventive hard rock. SLOW RIDE is stunning...

In 1975 Foghat released their album “Fool for the City” which became a big hit thanks to its title song and “Slow Ride”. The following album “Nightshift” was also a decent selling album so the timing was right to release a live album. The British band crossed the United States several times in the mid seventies and delivered their energetic performance almost everywhere. Some of the concerts they played in 1977 were recorded and at the end the best performances were put together and released as one live album simply entitled “Live”.

The worst thing about this Live album, which became the biggest selling album of the band, is the short running time. I think they would have had easily enough song to make this album a double LP. The six songs are pure dynamite. Rod Price let his guitar scream, Lonesome Dave Peverett sings very well and also the rest of the band is in good shape.
The Live LP starts with the energetic hit single “Fool for the City” and ends with the epic driving song “Slow Ride”, these are two of my favorite songs. But also the songs in between are great: The “Train Kept-A-Rollin’”-inspired “Honey Hush”, the rocking Muddy Waters cover “I Just Want to Make Love to You”, the soul based “Home in my Hand” and “Road Fever” are the remaining songs and all of them are great and performed with passion and energy.

Over the years I have seen Foghat live probably 5 or 6 times. This was their best make up and their best "live" recording. On the night these guys could blow your socks off with this hard boogie rock.

Foghat's Live is hard testosterone blues rock at it's best, live, sweaty, boozy, and raunchy. Their cover of Slow Ride is spectacular.

RIP Rod Price
RIP Lonesome Dave Preverett
RIP Craig MacGregor
