TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian Vice President-elect Gibran Rakabuming Raka met with Qatar's Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al-Thani at the Amiri Diwan Palace in Doha, on Wednesday, May 15.
When Indonesian President-elect and Defense Minister Prabowo Subianto introduced Gibran to Mohammed bin Abdulrahman, the latter appeared taken aback. “MasyaAllah, he's so young,” Mohammed bin Abdulrahman said with a smile, as cited from a video released by Prabowo's media team.
According to Qatar News Agency, Mohammed bin Abdulrahman and Prabowo deliberated on collaboration between the two nations and strategies to bolster and advance them in various domains, as well as the developments in the Gaza Strip and the occupied Palestinian territories.
On a separate occasion, Prabowo also met with Qatar's Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani at the Amiri Diwan Palace in Doha, Qatar, on Wednesday.
“I hope that His Majesty will be healthy, prosperous, and successful and that Qatar will continue to progress and thrive,” Prabowo conveyed to the Emir of Qatar.
During the meeting, Prabowo discussed improving relations between the two countries across various sectors, particularly in defense. The Emir of Qatar also expressed his desire for the relationship between the two countries to continue flourishing.
Gibran Rakabuming, the eldest son of President Joko Widodo or Jokowi, was confirmed as the vice president-elect at the age of 37. His selection as Prabowo's running mate in the election sparked controversies as it was made feasible by the Constitutional Court’s ruling on the presidential age limit, presided over by Chief Justice Anwar Usman, who is Jokowi’s brother-in-law.
