Product Description

Classical Music

Amazon.com

Swing is everywhere these days, but it's seldom played with the consummately relaxed skill heard here, with Hyman leading a mid-sized band of celebrated veterans. Bucky Pizzarelli on guitar, Milt Hinton on bass, and Butch Miles on drums make up a perfect swing rhythm section, while the horns provide vitally individualistic sounds and ideas, from Joe Newman's sly, muted trumpet to Joe Temperley's gruffly sweet baritone saxophone. The repertoire provides an authentic portrait of the swing era, from the energetic "Moten Swing" through Ellington's "Dooji Wooji" and Fletcher Henderson's beautiful "Soft Winds" to the pop songs of the day, like "Moonglow" and "Them There Eyes." Hyman displays the same musicianship apparent in his solo piano recordings, making wondrous use of space to let the rhythm section shine through. --Stuart Broomer

This is a great CD. This recording may be the best I have in my collection. Instruments sound as close to live as I have ever heard. I have a very resolving stereo and this sound great on it but surprisingly it even my wife's pick up truck stereo sound good. The music is well chosen and lively with a great range of instruments chosen for occasional solos. If this is your kind of thing also consider buying Bug Music. If you like swing you have to get this. If you want to show off just how good your audio system can sound you've got to get this too.

I am listening to this CD as I type this. For "stereophiles" and those of you who love great audio, the sound on this CD is superb...crystal clear, vibrant sound that is the best I have heard on a jazz CD...the bass and the piano and drums, the horns, everything is as "live" sounding as you could want in recorded sound, perfectly balanced and just the right amount of warmth .... The music is classic swinging small group jazz played by consummate pros. Highly recommended.

I purchased this on a recomendation of a person from a review. Although this music isn't exactly my cup of tea, the quality of the recording is excellent.

Awesome jazz. Our DJ played this through dinner at our wedding reception and so many guests commented on how great the music was. I immediately went out and got the CD.

5.0 out of 5 stars Ritorno al vinile

A pleasant set of tracks, with the usual immaculate touch of Dick Hyman. Perhaps this music is considered out-of-date but it suits me.
