After August Ames Suicide, Husband Kevin Moore Blames Cyberbulling for Porn Star's Death

The husband of porn star August Ames, who died by suicide December 5, has issued a lengthy statement blaming cyberbullies for her death.

Adult film director Kevin Moore wrote on Ames's website that "bullying took her life."

Moore said his world was "instantly shattered" upon Ames's death aged 23. "Mercedes was magnetic. She had a kindness in her that I had never experienced before," he wrote, adding: "I hate life without her. It is a cruel existence devoid of color."

The post was tweeted from Ames's Twitter account, prefaced by: "The truth."

Ames was found dead at her home in Camarillo, California, just two days after she received backlash on social media for tweeting that she refused to work with a male porn actor who had also appeared in gay adult films.

The adult film actor—real name Mercedes Grabowski—defended herself against accusations of being homophobic. One porn actor, Jaxton Wheeler, tweeted that "the world is awaiting your apology or for you to swallow a cyanide pill. Either or we'll take it."

In his statement, Moore blamed cyberbullies for being responsible for her death.

"If you fire a gun into the air and that bullet randomly hits someone that you never intended to kill, you still killed them," wrote Moore.

"I write this to make it crystal clear: Bullying took her life. If the harassment had not occurred, she would be alive today. She ended her life the day after the bullying began. To think they are unrelated is delusional."

Moore said the day Ames took her life "she believed everyone hated her, she could not see past that" and called social media a "cancer on our industry and society at large."

Moore singled out Wheeler and fellow porn actor Jessica Drake for comments made online about Ames.

In an interview with Newsweek in December, Wheeler said, "I made a horrible comment in my way of trying to say we just wanted an apology. I feel like the shittiest person in the world."

In his blog post, Moore said Ames's mother, a war veteran suffering from post-traumatic stress, had been hospitalized since her death. "At no point have any of these individuals put themselves in her family's shoes," he wrote. "Imagine if it was you that lost your spouse, your sister, or your child in this way. How would you really feel?"

Moore also noted that on Wednesday he filed the "first of several lawsuits" related to Ames's death. He said he had filed suit against the Ventura County Medical Examiner's Office "for releasing confidential and private information regarding her death."

The Medical Examiner's Office could not immediately be reached for comment.
