We really enjoyed our stay at the Grand Summit. We paid an extra $20 per night upon checkin to stay on a renovated floor. The room was clean, spacious with charm. Beds were comfy. The hotel was very quiet and we slept well both nights. the hallways were wide. I used the basic fitness center and it was adequate., the location of the hotel is nice. It was a short 12 minute walk to train station where we took the train into NYC on a sunday. very easy experience. I enjoyed the historical significance of the hotel. a continental breakfast was provided and we appreciated that it had bottled juices too. I would definately stay at the Grand Summit again.
This is still my go-to hotel when we visit family in Summit as it is conveniently located. The majority of the staff are very friendly and they go out of their way to assist their guests or take care of special requests. Our room was very comfortable and clean. Even though there is no daily housekeeping service (most hotels have discontinued this as well) we had no issues getting what we needed. We were recently there for Thanksgiving. This was our first visit back since COVID started in 2020. The hours of operation for the Hat Tavern are very limited. I understand that there are business decisions that factor in but I hope the hours of operation are extended in the future. I used to enjoy having the convenience of having breakfast at the hotel. Since we did not have a car we had to walk into town if we wanted breakfast at a nearby restaurant which is not as convenient. I appreciate the complimentary continental breakfast served in the hotel lobby but it is not quite the same as sitting in the restaurant, ordering from a menu, and being waited on by your favorite servers. I sure hope the long-time employees found work somewhere else. Thanks to all of the staff for your hard work. The renovations still look great. Wishing you all a Happy and prosperous holiday season.…
We visited for an overnight stop between NC and Maine. It was a great alternative to a chain hotel. We had our dog and the fee was much less than the crazy $100 fees that are the current trend. Our room was small, but seemed newly renovated with modern bathroom fixtures. The bed and linens were comfortable and good quality. The complimentary breakfast was pretty generous and included some hot egg options. It's too bad the restaurant/bar is closed and that, generally, the hotel seemed a bit underutilized. It's a huge historic property in a quiet, pretty residential neighborhood. We would stay again.
We came to NJ for a wedding being held at this hotel. My girlfriend is the sister/maid of honor of the bride and her daughter was a flower girl so needless to say we had a lot of luggage in tow. From the moment we arrived, our weekend was plagued with problems. The room we reserved (a 2 room executive suite) was not ready upon our arrival so the 3 of us were placed in a regular room. Normally this isn’t a problem, but the room they put us in had one bed and no couch for our daughter. When we asked for a sleep away for her to be brought up while we ate dinner downstairs, it was brought and left upright in the room with the sheets on the floor. It may not be a big deal to some travelers but taking five minutes to make this bed for us would have made a difference, especially considering our reservation was already in disarray and we had been traveling all day. Speaking of dinner, the Hat Tavern did have excellent food and friendly staff, but it’s only open from 5-9pm on weekdays and 5-930pm on weekends. Make sure you have the UberEats app on your phone because you’re going to need it. The next day, we were moved to another room they claimed was a “suite” because it had a pull out couch. We again pointed out that this was not the room we had reserved but the hotel insisted it was the same. Because we had to begin preparations for the wedding, we simply couldn’t argue with them any longer about our room so we crammed our luggage and several large boxes of wedding supplies into our room. To make matters worse we were charged for the rate of a two room executive suite when we checked out. The wedding itself was incredible, with little to no help from the hotel staff with the exception of Carrie, the catering manager. She was phenomenal and went out of her way to help make this event special. At one point in the evening, a gentleman named Patrick (the hotel’s Asset Manager) came into the ballroom and very rudely told the DJ to turn the music down. The DJ came to us and relayed what happened because even he was in shock at how unprofessional Patrick had been. If you’re looking for a nice hotel in Summit, NJ I suggest you choose any location other than the Grand Summit Hotel. This establishment may have a long and rich history in Summit, but the current management is doing nothing to maintain its former reputation. There is no reason to stay here until significant changes are made.…
Stayed here with my children in two rooms for three nights. From check in through check out everything was very well done. Extremely friendly and accommodating folks at the front desk. Nice fellow that took care of morning coffee, breakfast, and so much more, was part of this wonderful stay. Comfortable bed, windows in the room opened with no trouble, lots of light, plenty of hot water in the shower, lots of plugs and USB ports. Cozy lobby. Free parking, walking distance (5 minutes) from the charming little town of Summit. Very nice grab and go breakfast with delicious coffee! See the folks in the pictures. They were wonderful! Nicely done Grand Summit staff!
We've stayed in the Grand Summit several times now as our daughter attends nearby Drew University. the rooms are clean, spacious, and quiet. parking is free and one can walk to the nearby train station. trains take about an hour to get to Penn Station in NYC. you can also walk to the lovely downtown Summit for shopping, restaurants, coffee, etc. My favorite aspect is being able to walk/run in the nearby lovely residential neighbors with their gorgeous homes and landscaping. Hotel staff are pleasant. the work out room is pretty minimal and although a free breakfast is provided it's not wonderful and coffee needs work. I usually grab some juice then head out for a run and pick up bagels and good coffee on my way back. We'll continue to stay at the Grand Summit.
It seems to be the only hotel in Summit. The hotel itself is very dated to be honest but it still has a nice character. The rooms were decent but I called the front desk twice to ask for maid service which never came and on the 4th day they finally did. That’s poor enough. Seems to be skeleton staff on, no bar which is ridiculous really. The pool wasn’t exactly clean and the loungers were hard wood with no cushions. Again it’s probably down to the lack of staff. Breakfast in the “bar” was very basic. In regards to staff, some were very very pleasant and helpful, some were a bit clueless and disinterested. The “gym” is the size of a small restroom with 3 machines and about 4 weights! Location is pretty good but needs to be modernised and staff need to sharpen up a bit but I would return here knowing to have meals and drinks in town and not to swim in the bug filled pool.…
My brother and I had a surprise 50th Anniversary party for our parents and it was absolutely great! We had it at the pool are and Carrie (Spiegel) and her staff made it look great. They put out the tables in all the right places and decorated the area with beautiful flowers. The food was also amazing! Chad the chef did a wonderful job with the passed hors d'oeuvres, buffet and dessert! There was plenty of food for all our guests (35) and then some. The wait staff was also wonderful! They made sure everyone was offered the passed hors d'oeuvres and made sure everyone had drinks. All our guests had a great time and raved about everything! I would definitely recommend this venue to anyone!! Thanks Carrie and Chad for making my parent's 50th truly memorable!!!
I have stayed here multiple times as a halfway to stop to Virginia. Rooms are clean and comfortable. The breakfast is included in their Hat Tavern and have a variety of hot & cold selections. I will continue to stay here as my half way point to relax and recharge!
After an outdoor concert in a nearby town we retreated to the Grand Summit Hotel. My buddies knew it well, as they grew up in the area and celebrated family events and special occasions there. The room we booked was located poolside, plenty of space to sleep, work and eat. Coffee maker and hot drinks provided. Small shower stall, no tub. The place was clean with plenty of towels and shampoos and soaps. Walls were thin. The lobby area was spacious and well-appointed. Sofas and easy chairs in front of the fireplace. Long desks with computers and printers for working guests. Dinner in the downstairs Taven was better than expected. The fried calamari were crisp. The boom boom shrimp were spicy. The hummus plate was fresh and home made, served with pita and olives with a dollop of Greek olive oil. We washed them down with a tangy red sangria, then main plates, fish tacos, buttery cod, Cajun pasta with steak. Dinner for four with sangria was about $200. Good value. We left with doggie bags.…
