Telugu actor Chandra Mohan passes away at 80

Chandra Mohan was admitted to Apollo Hospital in Hyderabad for heart-related ailments and passed away on Saturday morning.

Veteran Telugu actor Chandra Mohan passed away at the age of 80, on Saturday. He had recently been admitted to Apollo Hospital in Hyderabad, Telangana, for heart-related ailments and breathed his last at 9:45 am, Telangana Today reported quoting his family members.

Born Mallampalli Chandrasekhara Rao on May 23, 1943, in Pamidimukkala village of Krishna district, Andhra Pradesh, Chandra Mohan marked his on-screen debut in BN Reddy’s Rangula Ratnam (1966). In a distinguished career spanning 51 years, Mohan appeared in a total of 932 films, earning one Filmfare Award for Best Actor – Telugu for Padaharella Vayasu (1978) and two Nandi Awards – Best Male Comedian for Chandamama Raave (1987) and Best Character Actor for Athanokkade (2005). His final film appearance was in AM Jyothi Krishna’s Oxygen (2017).

Upon learning about his demise, many, including the Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy and several members of the Telugu film fraternity, expressed their heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family members.

Taking to X (formerly Twitter), Andhra Pradesh CM YS Jagan Mohan Reddy wrote: “Famous actor Chandra Mohan was suffering from illness and closed his eyes while being treated in the hospital. He won the Nandi Award for his first film and acted in hundreds of films in Telugu and Tamil languages ​​and left a mark in the hearts of the Telugu people. My deepest condolences to the family members of Chandramohan and my heartfelt wishes for his soul to rest in peace.”

Former Vice-President of India M Venkaiah Naidu, also expressed sorrow over the passing of Mohan and wrote on social media: “I am deeply saddened to know that famous Telugu film actor Shri Chandra Mohan has passed away. Starting from the films of yesteryear to the films of yesteryear, their importance as an actor is undeniable. I pray for his soul to rest in peace and send my condolences to his family.”

Megastar Chiranjeevi shared a picture of Chandra Mohan on X, stating: “It is very sad to know that the senior actor and protagonist Chandra Mohan Garu, who left an indelible mark in the minds of Telugu people through his versatile acting skills in many such films as ‘Sirisirimuvva’, ‘Sankarabharanam’, ‘Radhakalyanam’ and ‘Nakoo Pellam Khali’ is no more.”

“In my debut film ‘Pranam Kharidu’ he gave an outstanding performance in the role of a mute. Our first acquaintance on that occasion turned into a good friendship and an even greater bond. It is a personal loss for me to no longer be close to him,” he recalled, adding “May his soul rest in peace, my deepest condolences to his family and fans. 🙏🙏”

“Deeply saddened by the news of Chandra Mohan garu’s passing. Sending thoughts of comfort and strength to his near and dear ones during this difficult time. May his soul rest peacefully,” Venkatesh Daggubati noted on X.

Taking to social media, Jr NTR wrote: “It is very sad to see the untimely death of Chandramohan Garu, who has earned a special recognition for himself by playing different roles in films for many decades. My deepest condolences to his family and may his soul rest in peace.”

“His is a face that takes us down the memory lane & puts a smile on our faces every time with his memorable Acting & characters. May your soul rest in peace Chandra Mohan sir. Om Shanti 🙏🏼,” Sai Dharam Tej noted on social media.

According to Telangana Today, Chandramohan is survived by his wife, Jalandhara, and two daughters. His final rites will be held in Hyderabad on Monday.
