Robyn McCall & Co. will stay in business for the foreseeable future.
CBS has renewed The Equalizer for Season 5, TVLine has learned.
“The Equalizer, led by the incomparable Queen Latifah, has all the best elements of a powerful drama,” said Amy Reisenbach, president of CBS Entertainment, via statement. “The series is stacked with suspense, heroism, high stakes and formidable characters our audience roots for. We look forward to another dynamic season.”
Season-to-date, The Equalizer is averaging 8.3 million total viewers and a 0.65 demo rating (with Live+7 playback), which is right on par with its Season 3 numbers. Out of the 14 dramas that CBS has aired this TV season, it ranks No. 5 in total audience (trailing Tracker, NCIS, FBI and Blue Bloods), and fourth in the demo (behind Tracker, FBI and Fire Country).
The series’ in-limbo status landed it a spot on TVLine’s recent list of unrenewed broadcast shows; 10% of readers who participated in a related poll wanted The Equalizer to get another season, landing it fifth behind Law & Order: Organized Crime (still on the bubble), NCIS: Hawai’i (still on the bubble), CSI: Vegas (now cancelled) and So Help Me Todd (now cancelled).
What do you think about The Equalizer‘s renewal? Are you pumped for Season 5? Hit the comments and let us know!
That leaves NCIS: Hawaii as the only CBS show that doesn’t know its fate at this moment.
Ohana fans would like to know their show is coming back.
I would have preferred NCIS: Hawaii over Equalizer if I could only have one renewed. And I will qualify that by saying NCIS: Hawaii MINUS LL Cool J. Adding the Sam character has totally changed the tone of the show, and not for the better in my opinion.
I also would have preferred they let SWAT (as it is now) go and use those $$ to keep So Help Me Todd.
CBS is pretty much the only network I watch, and I watch all the shows.
I agree. Adding him changed the dynamics and cast interaction. It was a bad decision forced on them by the network.
My fear is they will cancel it and give the slot to NCIS: Origins.
Because why have a show with a diverse cast, LGBTQ representation, and employ crews in Hawaii when you can have a Mark Harmon-led lily-white one filmed in LA?
You misunderstand. Origins has already been confirmed to be on the schedule next season regardless of whether Hawaii is cancelled or not. And the decision will be based on what makes the network the most money
No. I understand. Origins was ordered, but it still needs to be assisgned a time slot. So, CBS will give that 10 PM EST slot to Origins at the expense of Hawaii.
And after they trotted out Vanessa Lachey at their 1000 NCIS episodes celebration as the first female-leader of the franchise and a POC, to cancel Hawaii and give that slot to Origins will send a bad message.
Is the bad message that shows people watch get renewed and shows not enough people watch, don’t? Because they created the series and put it on air for multiple seasons. At some point, it’s not on them if people don’t watch it.
I stick by what I said. The network will program something at 10 p.m. on Monday’s, but whatever that program is has nothing whatsoever to do with whether or not Hawaii is renewed or cancelled. We might not like what gets programmed there, but it is not the fault of that show that the other was cancelled. And although the network will do all sorts of things to promote a show, as much as we might want things to be different, the bottom line for the network is always going to be money. However, if you really want to “blame” a show, then blame the NCIS Sydney show, which was originally supposed to be streaming only, but the network decided to put on broadcast (which also is female lead poc show).
I started watching because of LL Cool J but I’m still struggling with watching because some of the other cast members are so boring.
Because the time usually spent on them is going to LL Cool J.
I’m happy about this news. It’s the only CBS show that I watch these days.
Bring back Todd!
Agreed
Second that! Todd is a much bettter show then Equalizer.
Sure it is poddleshark
100%
Good news! It’s the only procedural I watch on CBS – though I DVR it to watch later in the week because a lot of times the start of the show is delayed between a few minutes to a half hour or so.
Not surprised. Yet they canceled CSI: Vegas and So Help Me Todd.
Because they are the two lowest rated CBS shows.
I am so glad they renewed TE. I love QL. She is great in that show.
I’m happy about this, now I can continue to enjoy this show.
I’m so glad it got renewed. I need it moved to Fridays because sports events keep interrupting the series. It’ll fit well with SWAT and FIRE COUNTRY after BLUE BLOODS ends
Happy about this, but CBS needs to bring back “Todd”
Don’t cancel everything. Do some shorter seasons so some can fit-in at mid-season and/or move some to Paramount+ as exclusives.
Happy for the viewers of The Equalizer, but I prefer So Help Me Todd and am disappointed that it was cancelled.
I like Equalizer, but I watch NCIS Hawaii more often, because it doesnt have the Sunday sports mess in scheduling delays. SO I hope they do not pull the plug on Hawaii, but Sam Hana needs to go back to LA. The whole dynamic has changed, making HIM the defacto boss of the show. NOT COOL, COOL-J.
This is great news to hear!! I absolutely love Queen Latifah and the other stars of this series. The dramas are excellent and engaging!! The Queen is an amazing actor too!!
Yay!! Love Queen Latifa and this exciting show!
YAY! Long live the Queen!
If it came down to two shows for one last spot & CBS went w/ this over NCIS: Hawaii, I’m really not going to be happy. I’ve tried to get into this show periodically..and I just can’t warm up to it. Whereas Hawaii is must watch (or at least DVR) every Monday evening..
Why? This show is way to far fetched. Even watching Latifa holding the gun sent shivers up my spine. She wouldn’t hit the broad side of a barn. The show is plain terrible.
AWould much rather have So Help Me Todd.
So Help Me, I NEED my Todd! Is there a petition out there?
There is. Marcia Gay Harden has a link on her Instagram page.
I’m very happy that the Equalizer has been renewed for another season. I like this TV show so much!!!
That’s too bad
I would have much preferred CSI Vegas being renewed
Yippee! It is one of the four shows I can’t miss, along with:
The Rookie
Chicago Fire
Chicago Med
But I’m hoping that TPTB do not push a Robyn & Dante match. Leave them as friends.
Glad they renewed The Equalizer. One of my can’t miss shows to watch. Thank you CBS! Now please renew NCIS: Hawaii. Another one of my can’t miss shows to watch.
I gave up on Hawaii because of the soap opera aspect. These were folks that no matter how much I tried to like, I couldn’t get interested in enough to come back week after week.
The addition of LL Cool J was stunt casting, pure and simple. It was a way to get people to watch. Didn’t work for me and I liked Sam.
That tells me that the powers that be knew they had issues and that was their fix. It isn’t working.
What I have noticed with the non NCIS (mothership) series is the overload of gun fights and explosions. Every one of those series struggled. NCIS has not used that as a crutch for storytelling and it hasn’t had as much issue with viewers. That, I think, is worth paying attention to.
The sad truth of this time of year is that we see shows we like go away because there just aren’t enough folks who watch them. The cost must be covered by advertising or subscription streaming which are ratings driven. Viewers = Ratings
