CBA has a long-standing tradition but has a mediocre student body. CBA lacks the academic rigor in an area known for its academic competitiveness. It attracts students who might otherwise go to Ranney but are not able to get in due to their lackluster academic records/test scores. Another area of improvement needed is guidance for the college application process. I have a high GPA, sports, extracurriculars, and test scores, yet I just learned that more students will be accepted from other schools in the area because they know how to play the college admissions game better. I had to learn the college admissions process by hiring an expensive college admissions consultant, since admissions have changed post-pandemic. CBA should place more emphasis on academics instead of spirit assemblies. The school also needs to address the off-campus drug problem. This has a lot to do with the quality of students it accepts, most of whom are legacies or make substantial donations.
You have to be an athlete of many years to fit in here and it's social suicide if you're not a stellar one. Do they have the best teams? No, but the culture is centered around athletics. Luckily I play two sports and it's been the highlight of my time here. Academics are hit or miss. If you take AP and honors courses, the education is very good. Those classes are challenging but not too bad. There is bullying but it evens out by junior year. Many students are coming off the pandemic era years and are highly addicted to their phones/gaming. I don't see them doing so well - they end up at college without scholarships and not the best schools. Not very many people do well on standardized tests in comparison to the public schools around here. You can do well here if you carve out your niche and have a few teachers on your side. My complaint about the school are the students. The majority are spoiled, not creative, not academic, boring. I feel really bad for non-athletes who attend.
I graduated from CBA a few years ago. My cousins now attend CBA and I hear what goes on. First off, I am a proud CBA graduate. In recent years, what has diminished is not the school's fault but rather the quality of students who attend. The brotherhood was what I liked most about the school but it seems that it needs to be watched closely since the school's known drug culture, which is OUTSIDE of school, stems from activities around the brotherhood mentality. The general views on (hard) drug use is concerning. To the point where my cousins want transfer. The academics seem far less challenging than they used to be (likely part of why RBC is now ranked higher than CBA). In fact, the AP courses are where it's at. However, there is a lot of cheating that goes on. Again, the school addresses it but this is a culture thing where more students do it than not. None of this is the fault of CBA. The school needs to admit better students / interview the parents as part of the admissions process.
