Charlie Puth – See You Again (Original Version) Lyrics | Genius Lyrics

See You Again (Original Version) Lyrics

[Chorus]
It's been a long day without you, my friend
And I'll tell you all about it when I see you again
We've come a long way from where we began
Oh, I'll tell you all about it when I see you again
When I see you again

[Verse 1]
Why'd you have to leave so soon? Yeah
Why'd you have to go?
Why'd you have to leave me when I needed you the most?
'Cause I don't really know how to tell you without feeling much worse
I know you're in a better place, but it's always gonna hurt

[Pre-Chorus]
Carry on
Give me all the strength I need
To carry on

[Chorus]
It's been a long day without you, my friend
And I'll tell you all about it when I see you again
We've come a long way from where we began
Oh, I'll tell you all about it when I see you again
When I see you again
(Ooh)
[Verse 2]
How do I breathe without you? I'm feeling so cold
I'll be waitin' right here for you 'til the day you're home

[Pre-Chorus]
Carry on
Give me all the strength I need
To carry on

[Bridge]
So let the light guide your way, yeah
Hold every memory as you go
And every road you take
Will always lead you home, home

[Chorus]
It's been a long day without you, my friend
And I'll tell you all about it when I see you again
We've come a long way from where we began
Oh, I'll tell you all about it when I see you again
When I see you again

[Outro]
(Ooh) When I see you again
See you again (Oh, oh)
When I see you again

Genius Annotation

The original version of the smash hit of the same name. A few years after writing the track, Charlie was approached by the team behind Furious 7 and picked up an offer that would later jumpstart his career: featuring his song, with added verses from Wiz Khalifa, in the film.

Despite popular belief, “See You Again” is not about Paul Walker — although the newer version is dedicated to him, Charlie wrote the song after the death of a friend.

On June 11, 2016, Charlie sang this during his concert at BLI Summer Jam at Jones Beach Theatre for his late friend Christina Grimmie, who has been shot and killed during her concert at Orlando, Florida. During his “See You Again” performance, he states the following:

“I want to dedicate this song to her tonight. And I’ve been upset about this all day, mainly because I just never got to say what I wanted to say and I feel like this song perfectly captures that and if anyone here who’s ever lost anybody, it perfectly captures that. And I`ll quit talking because I feel right away.”

He then states that: “Bodies die, but our souls live forever.”

On February 2020, Charlie, along with Wiz Khalifa, performed this as a tribute for former basketball player, Kobe Bryant, and his daughter, Gianna “Gigi” Bryant, who both died from a helicopter crash.
