ANNOUNCEMENTS

*Prayers Requested: Please pray for the sick in the parish, especially Jim Vogel, Joe Buggy, Abby Buggy, Karen Johnson, Denise Luke, Paul Aranas, Jeannine Buggy, Lisa Reiss, Pat Kosko, Helen Kucharski, Christine Patterson, Jesse Gaines, Victor Cardiel, Karen Hartman, and Carl Lukkes.

 

*Catechism Class for Adults: The Baltimore III Catechism class will be held on Thursday, May 16, at 7:00 pm in the Church Hall. We will be covering lessons 34-35. Please be mindful to maintain proper modesty in dress here on the church property.

 

*SOL Meeting: The SOL group will be having a meeting in the high school at 10:30 am after Mass.

 

*May, the Month of Our Lady: The SOL group and all men of the Parish will be bringing up flowers to Our Lady today,

3rd Sunday - The Holy Name Society, all fathers, and men of the Parish

4th Sunday -  the High school and 8th Grade graduates

You are invited to bring your own flowers up in the procession on those days, or we will have flowers available. Gentlemen, please line up before Mass next Sunday to present your flowers to her, right before the beginning of Mass.

 

*Piano Recital: The Spring piano recital will be held in the church hall today after Mass. All are welcome!

 

*Girls’ Camp: Mark your calendar. There will be a girls’ camp at Our Lady of the Sun beginning at the 8:00 a.m. Mass on Monday, June 25th, and ending after the 8:00 a.m. morning Mass on Thursday, June 28th. The cost is $80 per girl. Any girls aged six and older are invited to attend.

 

*Graduation and Spring Program: Next Sunday, after Mass, Our Lady of the Sun Academy’s Annual Spring Program and graduation will take place. Please, come and enjoy cake and refreshments while listening to the students perform selected songs and poems.

*Ember days: The Ember days are Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday. These are days of fast and abstinence.

Fast and Abstinence: Fasting Laws

 

*Everyone over 21 years of age and under 59 years are bound to observe the law of Fast.

*On days of fast, only one full meal is allowed. Two other meatless meals, sufficient to maintain strength, may be taken according to one’s needs; but together they should not equal another full meal.

Meat may be taken at the principal meal on a day of fast except on Fridays, Ash Wednesday, Holy Saturday, Vigils of the Immaculate Conception and Christmas.

*Eating between meals is not permitted, but liquids, including water, milk, and fruit juices are allowed.

*Where health or ability to work would be seriously affected, the law does not oblige. In doubt concerning fast or abstinence, a priest or a confessor should be consulted.
