Devin White’s Contract Details: Eagles Finally Address Linebacker by Signing Former Buccaneer

The Philadelphia Eagles have stayed busy during free agency, and they continued to build the defense with the signing of Devin White.

The Philadelphia Eagles have been active in free agency thus far and continued that trend by signing former Tampa Bay Buccaneers linebacker Devin White.

The team made a big splash move early in free agency by signing superstar running back Saquon Barkley. However, the team has some holes on the defensive side of the ball, and the signing of White helps fill a void at linebacker.

White was drafted No. 5 in the 2019 NFL Draft by Tampa Bay, and he had an impressive run there. His best season was in his rookie year, when he had 140 tackles and nine sacks. For his Tampa Bay career, he had 556 tackles, 23 sacks, eight fumble recoveries, and six forced fumbles.

Full Contract Details for Devin White

It is kind of a mystery why someone with White’s accomplishments isn’t getting a bigger contract. His contract with the Eagles is a one-year, $7.5 million deal. White is still only 26 years old and is still in his prime.

He is still young enough in his football career to where this could be one of those prove-it type contracts. The Eagles aren’t a team with a ton of money in the future, so he has a chance to show he is still an elite linebacker and then get a long-term deal.

Comparing White’s Deal to Other LBs

This is where it is interesting that White is only getting a one-year deal. White’s former college teammate, Patrick Queen, just signed a big three-year, $41 million contract with the Steelers.

Queen is two years younger at 24 years old, and White, with his play on the field, should get a deal similar to that. There were some rumblings that White didn’t see eye to eye with coaches last year.

Jordyn Brooks signed with the Miami Dolphins for three years, $30 million, while Drue Tranquill re-signed with the Chiefs for three years, $19 million.

If White is able to go out and be the player he has been for his career, then don’t be surprised if he gets a long-term contract next season.
