- Erin S13 contributionsHistory lesson! Highlighted events and statistics that I was unaware of. - Deanosaur89Edmonton, Canada7,261 contributionsWe felt paying 8 euros to enter the tower was a bit steep considering we only spent about 20 minutes inside the small space. There wasn't much to see or do here and we felt the nearby Palace of the Grand Dukes of Lithuania have a better bang for our buck.
The tower has a small exhibit to the history of the tower and includes a small iron wolf pelt. There is also a room to explain the Baltic Way including a picture opportunity. The highlight was getting to the top of the tower and looking out over the city and seeing the flagpole.
We felt you could enjoy the tower from the outside just as well and easily read up on the exhibitions on your own time. We felt for a castle exhibition this was easily one of the most overpriced ones we went to during our stay in the Baltics. The nearby platform gives similar views of the city and nearby three cross monument.
If you have mobility issues we'd recommend not doing this tower but if you want a view from one of the hilltops in Vilnius this would be the place to do it because they have an affordable funicular that is 1 Euro each way. You can pay for a 1 way or round trip at the bottom ticket office for the funicular and if you just want a return you can pay at the bottom before going through the gates.Written April 22, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. I couldn't have been more wrong. Both my son and I thoroughly enjoyed every part of the exhibition. The museum is small and convenient, but every single item is meaningful and engaging. We left the place in complete awe. I highly recommend a visit. Be sure to bring your camera with you to capture the amazing illusions.Written May 26, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Kevin WLondon272 contributionsI wasn't sure if I had found it or not. There are two solid-looking, anonymous brown doors on the corner of a building. Until you look up above the doors you won't realise you've arrived at the "Pinigu Muziejus".
It's a small museum with lots of coins including international collectors' ones with descriptions in four languages including English. It's interesting to find the offerings from your own country's mint in their collection.
Some of the old coins going back to around 14th century are on a roll behind glass which you can move up and down to select the ones you wish to view through some built-in magnifiers - I've not seen that type of display before. They also have some 13th century Lithuanian long currency - silver ingots which look a bit like a cigar.
There was something downstairs that allowed you to strike your own coin with supervision - I didn't ask about doing that but there was a guide who had asked me earlier if I needed any help/information. There's also a 400oz gold bar you can lift to feel the weight of one.
A nice way to spend an hour and it's free.Written October 8, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Even found a potential relative on a board of Jewish members of the Vilnius town council before the war. They have even built a hideaway in the attic to get a sense of what people went through.
The museum The Green House was founded by survivors.
A lot of history and small but so well done.Written May 14, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. And a big statue out in front. I really like the old sundial on the building.Written June 18, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Erin S13 contributionsThe museum portion is in the basement of a shop. The amber was absolutely beautiful. There is a portion of the museum with magnifying glasses to see the bugs trapped in the amber. The upstairs shop has gorgeous museum quality pieces of jewelry.Written June 3, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - ElaineAndGregChesterland, OH2,991 contributionsThe Toy Museum in Vilnius is an interesting mix of western and Soviet toys and also a mix of what is essentially a children's museum with one for adults.
The Vilnius Toy Museum sits off a side street of sorts about 200 feet from the Tourist Information Office. It wasn't hard to find, but we posted a photo of the sign outside. The museum is not terribly large, with perhaps ten rooms.
They have a lot of hands-on toys for children to play with, which they do with much enthusiasm. Some toys are behind glass cases. Among our favorites were the old Soviet arcade games.
We were visiting on a day when some school groups were as well, so it was crowded at times. The very patient staff warned us of this when we entered and our sense is that that usually was not the case.
We were a group of 3 adults (one of whom was a former elementary school teacher). We all enjoyed our time here, but kids in particular will love this place.Written July 4, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Russ LacuataLong Beach, CA9,550 contributionsThe Town Hall hosts various events, exhibitions, and events. It is always in the heart of adventure in Old Town.
The neoclassical Town Hall was at some point served as the city's theater and staged the first ever opera.
The weekend that I was there, there was a festival of folk dances and songs. It was lively and vibrant to see the dancers wearing their traditional attires.Written June 28, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
