At £50 in the UK this needed to be good. My 2014 Demon and 2019 MOV reissues suffer from the side lengths but for sure this is better. The recording is NEVER going to be audiophile but its cleaner and better levelled here than ive heard so far on vinyl at least. The pressings are excellent too. For sure disc one is just a royal blue marbled. The second disc is closer to turquoise but still mostly a light blue. However they are quiet of playback througout which is some going. Ive no idea which US plant pressed this but they did a good job!
Im happy with this cooy and its my goto vinyl edition now but does it beat the Analog Spark SACD?
No.- I have a more recent pressing of this record, but this one will stay dear to my heart. The die-cut sleeve alone makes it worth keeping. My copy looks and sounds like it has lived every moment of its 50 years the way Todd Rundgren most likely has and it has no remorse about aging ungracefully. I would grade mine G+, but it still plays great, blemishes and all. A work of mad genius.
- Is there a version of the CD that splits the tracks more accurately than the original Rhino version? I noticed a lot of the tracks in the first half of the album aren't cut quite where they should have been.

compared to the new rsd edition and my old vintage copy, this is def the best i’ve heard this record sound!! this much music needs two discs, plain and simple. mastering is nice and clear- I was always eager to hear this one in its full fakely lo-fi glory on vinyl. And I'm not disappointed ! It sounds atrocious at times, but that's totally voluntarily. Pretty silent pressing with lots of strange (and infamous) dynamics going on.

Needledrop of "Zen Archer" from this pressing, -1F/-1E matrices and RL mastering: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TzUy27pRO48
Mr. Ludwig did a not-bad job on this one considering what he was tasked with (up to 30 minutes a side!!!). Unfortunately, the inner grooves on my side 1 sound WEAK -- unless maybe it's groove damage? "Le Feel Internacionale" is but a smudge, diluting the climactic effect. Everything else is decent (including "Zen Archer" which I linked above). Lemme know what you think! - I have this and am wondering where is the Bass! Other than that it sounds way beter than my 1975 pressing which had seen too mant late nights.
- A fantastic edition of this record, unfortunately is not Gatefold Sleeve, A Porky Prime Cut written in dead space indicating that it was made by George Peckham. Excellent sound!
- I purchased a copy of this a couple of weeks ago, new and sealed. The album has Side 2 labels on both sides, but the pressings are Side 1 and Side 2. Wondering if anyone else had this factory error? Thank you, Jay
- Edited one year agoTodd's masterpiece. Really happy with this press. It sounds clear and well defined (well, as much as this psych odyssey can). It may be lower in volume than the Friday Music version, but I prefer not having to flip it over 3 times. Also, no arbitrary new interpretation of where to divide the songs for 2 LPs. The inserts are nice, but the sleeve feels flimsy. Anybody with an OG care to comment on that?
