This is Historic place from UNESCO list. It is also good place for walk or ride because of nearby park. Make sure to walk around to see it form different angles.

Iglica is a needle-like monument. It was built in 1948 and was 106 metres tall and is now a bit shorter after renovation. Its like something you expect to see in a Tintin adventure. The nearby Hall has an interesting video about its construction. Solidarity flew there flag from it in the bad old days as a protest. It must have been hard to fly and even harder for the communist authorities to take down.

At the Centennial Hall you will see this spire, which was nuilt in 1948. Theer are different interpretations why it was built, one of them to commemorate the new territories which Polna dgot back from the West.

I got to visit as part of Best City Tours as part of the 2 hour tour of Wroclaw. I’m glad it was included, otherwise I would not have made the trip just for a visit.

The one thing I was not expecting was the Soviet monument outside Centennial Hall, which is a sight to see. I learned from the tour guide that the tip is shorter than when originally installed due to lightning hitting the top 2 days before the unveiling. I also learned the three feet are supposed to represent the workers, farmers, and the intelligentsia as the pillars of communism.

Walked to this area today and I was pretty unimpressed with this 'monument' and the fountains. Ugly 'fire assembly point' sticker stuck on the monument (seriously who in their right mind thought this was ok?) Ugly red warning stickers around the fountain at head level which just messes up photos (without photoshopping them).

Some columns covered in ivy, some left bare. No information about the significance of the spire and surrounded with food trucks.

Fountain during the day is not synchronized with the music and it's just average.

The grounds are beautiful though as is the adjacent parks where I wandered for a few hours.

Maybe at night with the lights the place may be better but I'm not going back.

There is a large restaurant next to the fountain and the place is flat so wheelchair friendly.

Erected in 1948 by the Polish communist authorities to mark their victory, or was it the victory of the Soviet Union? No matter how historians will eventually judge over the Potsdam agreement between Stalin and the allied Western powers, fact is that the expulsion, deportation and movement of millions of Germans and Poles in the period 1945 - 1949 caused havoc and distress to put it mildly. Not something to celebrate.

I understood that meanwhile the official wording of the 'regained' territories has been changed to the more neutral 'western' territories of Poland. These included Gdansk (Danzig), Szczecin (Stettin) and Wroclaw (Breslau) where prior to 1938 German speakers constituted a majority. In the east all Polish territories east of the Curzon line where annexed by the Soviet Union.

At Iglica no information is provided about the historic context. A needle without a haystack.

Impressive Needle near the Centennial Hall. No information boards near it so we read up about the history afterwards. Reminded me of a space rocket!
Travelled by number 10 tram from city centre which stops outside the Hall (only 3PLN 40 single)

As we were visiting the park it is inevitable that you pass this space age spire. It serves no useful purpose and never really has in the past either. Pointless but intriguing.

The Soviets built this metal spire in 1948 on a concrete plaza between the Centennial Hall and Four Domes Pavilion in order to celebrate regaining control of its territories. By 2005, this spire had became a national historic monument. Our city tour guide enjoyed pointing out how Polish climbers, not the Soviet military climbed up the needle to its top to get rid of the broken spinning mirrors which had been falling below onto the plaza shortly after its erection on the plaza. Of course, climbing this 96 meter vertical tower, now, is not allowed. The shape of this monument resembled a rocket, IMO, with a broad triangular base that narrowed along the spire to the top. There seemed to be no co-relation between what the monument stood for and its design.

Probably the best photos are taken from afar with the Centennial Hall in the background - up close - just ugly metal with no outstanding features. We had a quick photostop of it as we walked past it to enjoy the multimedia fountain in front of Centennial Hall. The spire is about 3 km from the old town square so some type of transportation is needed to get here.

This is a large statue or sculpture right by a park outside centennial hall in Wroclaw. It's ok but not that interesting.
