Lokobe is a good day trip in Nosy Be, where you first go to a village, from where you take the canoe to the next village, which can be a bit rough for around 40 minutes. When at the village you want 10 minutes to go to the park and then you will try to find different wildlife species.
On our trip we found many birds and lizards. We found a giant hognose snake and a Madagascar ground boa (not a boa constrictor, which lives in South America) very close. We also found some very small and big chameleon species. For lemurs, we found 3 groups of black lemurs, a Claire's mouse lemur sleeping and 4 Nosy Be sportive lemurs sleeping in trees.
Afterwards we had a lunch in the first village (a very tasty one!) before heading back to the first village by canoe. On the way bay we had a motor on our boat but that is not for everyone. This is a fantastic day trip, you should absolutely do when in Nosy Be.

I had a great time at the Avenue during my visit. I spent there sunrise and on the way back from Kirindy park also sunset. For me, the sunrise time was the best. More peaceful and relaxed experience as there were just few people. Apart of admiring the majestic Baobas, I could see the adjoining village and the local community. There is small souvenir shops and restaurant and late during the day also local community market. For sunset, it was a different story. More crowded as many people came by car or rickshaw. The Avenue is just a 20 KM or 30 min ride.

After paying for the ticket 65000 and a hefty 160000 for a mandatory guide regardless of the lengths or the trail = 5000 local fee we headed of by car on 3km on a dusty bumping road to the head trail and parking with my guide. We started at 7 AM to avoid the heat but as the big part of Namaza trail is in the shade you can head off later. We have the trail ourselves. Surprisingly even early morning we could see a solitary female brown lemur. Then we started the trail up to the first waterfall where I swam in pristine and refreshing water followed by the climb up to the top of the mountain for an awesome 360-degree view and encounter with the lizard and various camouflaging insects. The guide to find hidden or camouflaged fauna. Then we carried down to the blue and black waterfall and lagoon where you can swim too. On the way back we looked for lemurs around the camping ground. To my surprise, we were lucky to spot the nocturnal owl and cheerful and hungry ring-tailed lemurs. Funny to watch them picking up and eating the fruit for their breakfast. The guide is mandator even though. Just walking the Namaza trail you would not need the guide as the trail is well marked and also well maintained. Still, be careful as the surface may be slippery in some part. My guide was very knowledgeable with good command of English. He was useful to find camouflaging insects e.g. stick insects.. The Namaza trail is around 6 KM long and can be done in 3 to 4 hours or more, depending how much time you take for swimming or lemurs searching.
If you have a car I recommend to drive for the sunset to Fentetre de Isalo or Window of Isalo about 20 KM south on N7.

I wasn’t sure sure about going to this place at first but it ended up being a very good experience. It is indeed a bit pricy but they are doing a good job minding the lemurs. According to them, these are lemurs saved from the pet trade, with the babies ending up being born in captivity. They cannot be released in a wild, hence this park.
At the end of the day, it is a great opportunity to see semi wild lemurs up close. I was in Tana for a work trip and did not have time to go deep in the forest. If I was on a month long tourist trip, I would probably skip the park. However if you are short of time, it’s a great experience.
The guide was very friendly, knowledgeable and spoke excellent English and French.

    Food was average. Bring cash

Beautiful island with many green turtles feeding right in front of the beach.

Calm environment, no mass tourism, and amazing lunch at the beach.

I will be talking about the Mantadia section, which is a nice forest consisting of many big trees. You will hear many indris, but finding them is a bit rough here. There are good chances of finding other lemurs though as the black and white ruffed lemurs, red-bellied lemurs, common brown lemurs, diademed sifakas and bamboo lemurs. The hikes are pretty easy and this is one of the great parks of Madagascar. You can combine this day with Analamazaotra section.

This is a park run by a local community so it is a great way to support the village and people. Even though the park is small I found it realy interesting. Easy to see ring-tailed lemurs, in the morning they sunbathe and have breakfast close to the lake. They were quite relaxed to closely approach them. You can see birds, chameleons or interesting rocky scenery. From the top there is an awesome view to the wide countryside. You can choose different trails with mandatory guides. My tour was about 2 hours-long run over the rocky parts. My guide spoke very well English and provided me not only with nice info about lemurs but also about local life and the community.

Our family of 5 (all adult) spent 7 days exploring Masoala National Park in Madagascar with Jean-Emile. We stayed in lodges by the beach and spent our days walking through the virgin rain forest. We also went snorkeling and had a fabulous boat trip up the river in canoes. Masoal is a very special place

During our trip we saw a huge range of plants and animals including lemur, chameleons, kingfishers. John-Emile knows the rain forest so well and was able to show us the many animals identifying the wide range of species and recognising their sounds.

Jean-Emile is a highly experienced and knowledgeable guide who has been leading trips for over 20 years. This was evident from the fact he seemed to know everyone in the local village and surrounding area! He organised every detail of our visit from meeting us at the airport to dropping us off at the end, including transport and food.

We would highly recommend Jean-Emile has a trustworthy and expert guide who you can rely on and really knows the area.

We arrived at Nosy Be as part of two islands excursion. We visited Nosy Komba and Nosy Tanikely.

First stop Nosy Tanikely in Malagasian the name means "Little Island". This is an underwater and land reserve.

After another early tender (7.30am!) we reach this small island by speed boat!
Here we had plenty of snorkelling time. There were a lot of well preserved reefs with plenty of fish species. After 2 hours in the water we took the boat to Nosy Komba.
This is the island where we found most of the animals living in Madagascar. There are lemurs, chamelons, snakes, turtles. Lemurs jump on your back and allow to take photo (as you can see). You must have a banana of course…. 🍌
Hubby also had photo with a snake🐍 😱.
On Nosy Komba we had a lovely lunch over looking the ocean.
A very interesting village located between rocks.

he park is located a few kilometers from the village of Ranomafana. Obligatory to have a guide with included the sighter who will take care of finding the lemurs including the endangered lemurs.
Here you can find various species of lemurs, geckos, mongooses, spiders and butterflies, as well as a beautiful and spectacular vegetation.
Trekking through the Park forest of about 7km with the possibility of swimming in a natural river pool with attached waterfall. Rano Mafana is supposed to mean "Hot Water" in Malagasy, but it depends on the time you go.
    Obligatory stop
