Q&A
Oh, what a surprise, Jerrel got the last pardon! I was not expecting that surprise (I wish I could have voiced this).
Anyway of course he got it, this last pardon was either his or Kelly.
IMO Angel had a great color palette but that bird looked like those chicken cap some people were as a part of a uniform in some chicken specialized restaurant or those chicken plastic toys for dogs after the dog chew the life out of it. It was a mess and I think they sent Jerrel home knowing damn well they were saving him.
Bob seems to still have many issues with application this late in the competition. He always as great designs but I think he doesn't tattoo fast enough for the competition hence the application issues.
Idk what was Jimmy thinking with that cloud on composition day. Is tattoo was still great looking but why that cloud in that color and that place?
D*mn Kelly, I was hoping this episode he would be like the star that would stand out. It's still okay tho, he survived.
Jerrel and Kelly are for sure finalist to me. I like Bob's drawings most of the time (I just don't get bio mechanic) but I can't see him being a finalist with applications problems. So the last spot is between Angel and Jimmy and either way I hope Jerrel or Kelly win.
SN 1 : maybe just maybe Jerrel just didn't like Franck, he seemed to have no problem with Kelly this week.
SN 2 : Thinking back, not only they should have had 1 pardon only but I don't think it's fair that 2 of the pardons this season went to returning artists. They had a chance, they f*cked up (for Jason he was screwed by the producers) they don't get to have so many chances.
SN 3 : This is the 13th season of that show, I understand not being the best ever in every style but how can you come on the show and not know the color palette of a style? Especially with Nunez as a judge.
Why was Jason screwed by the producers? Is there something he said about his elimination?
On his first season, 3 masters came back as team captain and to make sure each master had a finalist, they basically sacrificed Jason. I have nothing against Rolly but clearly Jason was a better competitor.
Oh yeah, I Agree. I just thought that it was something from this season.
When I saw everyone's tattoos, I thought, damn, Jerrel's really is the worst, but still had hopes, because judging can be all over the place with this show - but man when he got the two votes and walked away, all I was saying was, "pardon, pardon, pardon."
And in swoops Chris with the Pardon! Team Jerrel for the win!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Nooooooo Chris!! Don’t do it! He did it. He pardoned him. FML. I was so happy to see Jerrell go home, but I knew it was too good to be true. Ugh.
Overall, I think this has been my favorite episode this season. I love when they have the artists do something for people with disabilities, we get to see the real human side to the artists with no bullshit drama. I think we are also at the point in the competition where everyone's buttholes are puckered in anticipation for the finale- which cuts back on side squabbling and pointless drama. Though I did bust out a laugh when Jimmy called out Angel during the elimination and she snapped back with a "shut the fuck up." Classic Jimmy Snazz.
As for the challenge and everyone "missing the mark," I think Oliver said it best- when you create a challenge like this and start throwing around words like "Japanese" it definitely makes things unclear as to what is expected of the artist. It seems like everyone was under the impression the judges wanted traditional Japanese style cranes but they really wanted just a Japanese crane? I'm still unclear about what they actually wanted. Regardless, everyone knows how particular Nunez is about anything Japanese-style related- as seen with him leading the charge for no tattoo of the day. Besides the cloud in Jimmy's tattoo what was so terrible about it? Or even Bob's for that matter. Granted the jury of peers has absolutely no bearing on anything at this point, but there have been much worse tattoos pull out a tattoo of the day in the past.
I for sure think Angel should have gone home because that thing was a mangled mess. Jerrel's was questionable as well but no living crane can pull off that contortionist act she created. I have a sneaking suspicion they picked Jerrel to use the last pardon and next week will be a double elimination. Going into the home stretch I have two possible final 3: My favorites I hope to see and the probable final 3 My favorites are: Jimmy, Kelly and Bob The probable: Jimmy, Jerrel and Angel
Any news about when the finale will be or how it will be conducted?
I don't know why Angel is so aggressive towards him like I feel there is something they are not telling or showing us. What did he do?
They were on a previous season together, but I dont remember there being any real tension between the two. He also beat her on Grudge Match, so maybe some hard feelings about that mixed with what some may consider "annoying" antics?
They also had that big argument a few weeks ago that pissed off both Angel and Hiram, but there was serious tension prior to that.
Yeah but even the argument à few weeks ago, I didn't get it bc Hiram and her came at him calling him a one trick pony but when he claps back it's "How dare you?". It has to be bigger than that.
It’s not bigger than that. We film very long scenes and they cut them down to give you the most intense version. You can get pretty angry during a 10 minute scene. Angel and jimmy are friends outside of the competition. We all are.
Will there be a new judge be at the finale? I'm guessing Oliver won't get an invite
That is a good question 🤔 It would be weird if they didn't have him at the finale to finish this season out, but at the same time having him there could cause some serious backlash..
Introduce the new judge at the finale or wait until the new season is about to begin to draw in viewers?
Why not? What happened?
Oliver was essentially fired for an awful Halloween costume choice. I don't remember if blackface was involved, but the name alone landed him in trouble.
Blackface multiple times plus a blackface Super N costume.
Pictures surfaced of Oliver in black face, this is his last season judging.
I really wouldn’t enjoy it but they could do what they did in season one and just treat the finale like a regular episode with bigger tattoos
Without all the hooting and hollering and contestants not being able to hear the judges?? LOL, the finales are a mess, but I still watch, 'cause, why not?
I rewatched season 1 recently, and as "pure" as that finale was, it was just a little duddy.
What I wish they would change is whenever there's a clear bottom two or no winner, it would always come down to a face off - where they get the exact same linework but have to finesse it in their own way... I guess what I want is more art, and less mucking about.
Lol I actually enjoy the hype that the audience gives and then cheering for whoever wins but ig that’s just me
I can't remember which one it was (maybe the Kruzeman one) its was just so uugh. All this screaming and hollering for their guy when no one could hear shit. I dont hate it, I just hate the wooo after wooo every wooo single wooo word woooooooooo!! I like hearing from the artists and judges and what not - I know its live, but maybe a little direction would help. Lol, I'm arguing like I hate it, but I dont, I watch them all, I pick my pony, and I cheer them on too. Soo, there's that. :D
I thought Jerrell's tattoo was hard to read and wish he didn't colour the crane and the mountain the same. However, what Angel drew wasn't a crane and looked more like a swan so I understood why Chris gave Jerrell a pardon. It's probably because of good tv, but aside from that it made sense.
I agree with the judges that all of them didn't do well, but I think Jimmy did the best. If there was no cloud he would have gotten tattoo of the day. But he didn't and it helped Chris who looked like a kid in a candy store as he bashed everyone. You could tell just how excited he was to destroy everyone on Japanese day. I bet that's why he didn't show up for the flash challenge, he wanted to keep all of his savage energy in check and not get swayed by the beautiful people who came in and shared their stories.
Dave's advice regarding the bullying was lovely.
I like the sidebar they threw in there- "you guys wont judged for your exactness to the Japanese style as much as your composition."
Soooo that was a fucking lie
Chris said something like how they don't have to make it all Japanese, they can make the sun Japanese, or the mountains, or the background or the crane. But what he was really telling them was that regardless of what they do he's going to destroy them and won't be picking a tattoo of the day.
Haha what a sneaky snake because we all know if anyone clashed Japanese with any other style it would have been the kiss of death. Ol' Nunez Sensei would have cut them down real quick
Right lol. He purposely made it vague so he could destroy everyone.
jarrell talking about being judged by his character after last week made me laugh.
Ink Master is essentially game show at this point... every episode should go like last week.
Well...it was obvious. First thing, Angel had the worst tattoo, but she stayed because of this pardon thing has to be used. Second, Kelly, Jerrell and Jimmy are finalists. I would love to see Bob or Angel there, but unfortunately they are packing next week.
Angels was definitely the worst but in hindsight it made sense to send jerrell home so Nunez could pardon him and keep both of them in for another round if there wasn’t a pardon in play I think angel goes home
For as predictable as jerrell getting that pardon was, i was still oddly hyped when it happened. Also on top of it being predictable that it would happen I definitely knew it when i saw jerrell packing up his stuff and the camrea slowly pulled back preparing for the conversation. Also I love when they do stuff like the helmets or the wheelchair challenge from a couple seasons ago they are just really nice.
I thought all the helmets looked great, and was especially touched at how his client's situation affected Jerrell. The other artists connected with their clients too, but the bullying issue seemed to really hit home with him.
I feel like the pardon should’ve gone to Hiram. Hiram was one of the most consistent artists of the season. More consistent than even jerrell. Why? Cuz it only took 1 bad tattoo for Hiram to go home, on DOUBLE ELIMINATION! Jerrell had a couple of bad tattoos but still a consistent artist. But Hiram is more consistent. I’m not a jerrell hater whatsoever and matter of fact I really like Jerrell, but that patron should’ve gone to Hiram. Hiram got screwed.
Hiram should have been pardoned last week and Angel should have gone this week.
I don't think any of the veterans should have been allowed to receive a pardon, they were already given a second chance.
Yeah them coming back was a pardon
Can we talk about how beautiful Bob's helmet was? I couldn't agree more with the pick. He's an amazing illustrator
I also love what he said after he won, how humbled and how grateful he was for this experience. Fuck, I really want Bob to win (but will be pretty happy with Kelly too)
How did everyone interpret “Japanese crane” tattoo? Tattoo a crane which is native to Japan, hence Japanese crane. Or tattoo a crane in the Japanese style?
I was hoping someone would tattoo a paper crane instead, but no one did that. :(
That would have been super creative! I feel like the client would have to had specifically ask for that, though, and then it loses the fun.
I think if they meant a Japanese style tattoo they would've specified that. Hence I think it's safe to assume they meant a crane native to Japan. Also none of the judges brought up Japanese style while judging
I feel like they purposely didn't bring up the style, meaning they were looking for a crane native to Japan, but were vague so that they artists did trip up on the Japanese style portion of it. It was a weird ask.
Jerel's tattoo was not good, but Angel's was awful and not even a crane. And I'm an Angel fan.
Hate to say it, but I think if the pardon hadn't still been in play, Angel would have been sent packing.
Agreed although since it was a composition challenge, Jerrell's was not composed well. I loved the comment "Her crane looked like it went through a blender." True dat.
Yeah, but Angel's wasn't exactly composed very well either. I was in total agreement with judges, it wasn't a good day for any of the artists.
I wouldn’t understand why a pardon gets wasted on an artist that was already pardoned.
No she definitely would have gone home for good. And I really like her but based off of her tattoo today, that’s what should have happened
You suck Chris. I wanted to see Jarrell go home the week after his screw job.
Me too. I knew he was gonna pardon him, but god was I hoping he wouldn’t. I was so ready to be rid of Jerrell.

No matter what happens this season, I am absolutely a fan of Frank. I also have new respect for Jimmy. Both guys produced nice tattoos and were exceptional team leaders. I always liked Angel. Sort of hoping it comes down to her and Kelly and Jimmy.
Jerrel backstabbing Frank. It was a black on black crime.
Who won?
The decided there was no best tattoo of the day
If I had to pick, I think Jimmy's looked the best out of the 5 just based on composition. The leg thing was uber-pickey to me, but if they knew if they gave the win to Jimmy the elimination would most likely be Angel thus effectively eliminating the pardon.
Wow, that hasn't happened since season 4, if I'm not mistaken.
Seasons 3, 6, and 10 each had one episode where nobody won best tattoo of the day.
Ah, thanks
I'm not super clued in on the rules, but does that actually make a difference overall?
For this specific occasion it just means there was no jury of peers. Hence one team missed out the opportunity to throw someone else under the bus and left the bottom 3 pick entirely up to the judges
No, not really. But it always comes as a surprise.
lmao @ Peck's comment about Angel's tattoo "It looks like someone shot this bird out of the sky".
Does the Jerrel getting pardoned mean next week will be a double elimination?
I liked the "It looked like it went through a blender." comment myself.
That honestly was the best description. And I’m on team angel
My thought was that they secretly knew they wouldn't be able to film the live finale so they're making this season go on as long as possible lol.
That doesn't really make sense since after someone gets pardoned they always do double eliminations
I was joking
I'm ok with Jerrel being pardoned, especially because I would've eliminated Angel instead. Her tattoo was so difficult to read.
I seriously believe no matter who went home ( besides Angel of course) was getting a pardon. I don't think they wanted it to get in the way of next weeks episode.
Nervous for Jimmy now. Was thinking Chris was going to use it on him.
That would have been pretty bogus if all 3 pardons were used on veterans. I feel like there should have been a rule that they couldn't use them on the returning competitors, because, to me, them coming back already puts an asterisk next to their win, so if it's Angel, I wouldn't even consider her a true Ink Master.
Double elimination coming up next week. Good thing Chris used his pardon. Now Jimmy isn't gonna have a safety net. Cheers
Exactly what I was gonna say.
Oh shit that’s gonna be rough
Ikr
Actually really enjoying the new pardons. I feel like the judging is more fair but we aren’t losing great artists over one bad tattoo
Hiram
Hiram received a negative pardon with that bullshit double elimination.
Nice job Chris. Jerrell didn't deserve to go home.
Figured he’d save it for Jimmy.
Gotta be a double elimination next week then
Expected, Jerrell is way too much of a beast to have gone home with one bad tat
WOW. I’m very surprised that Chris used his pardon on him.
BOOOOOM!! Yes Chris!
I’m sick of these pardons
They just need to get rid of veterans or if they plan on keeping both veterans and pardon then make it so that veterans can't get pardoned. Don't let people who've already had their time to win from past seasons stick around if they fail a second time don't let them get by because of previous work from past seasons.
I think it’s a good idea. In past seasons, I hated seeing strong artists go home because they had one bad day
I like the idea in principal, but why do we have pardons if creating the second worst tattoo of one day is enough to send a consistent artist like Hiram home?
Holy shit Jerrel gone pepe
Edit: Aaaand nope pardoned lmao
“They are monsters” lol savage
As much as I love angel, I feel like she’s going home. It took me a while to figure out wtf position that bird was in
Ooowee that was rough.
I agree with the choice to not award someone tattoo of the day.
Same here
Lot of weird shaped birds today - nobody is safe
God I love Kelly. Just no nonsense, nose to the grindstone type of dude. Easy to root for.
He gives me psycho vibes but I think that is really because he is focused on the tattoo and his work. Has he ever been in the bottom?
