Overview

In the Android operating system (OS), apps are bundled into Android Package Kit (APK) files that contain all of the necessary files for a single Android program.

  • These apps are typically downloaded to Android devices via Google Play, or other stores that host Android apps. This is the default and standard UEM deployment for BlackBerry apps available in the store.
  • The BlackBerry Android apps available in Google Play can also be manually downloaded onto Android devices from other sources. This is done by downloading them through a web browser on the Android devices (see the links to download in the table below) or through a USB.
  • In an environment where Android devices do not have access to Google Play (for example, it is blocked in their country), the Android apps can be uploaded and hosted in UEM and deployed over-the-air. This solution requires UEM version 12.11 and later.

Manually installing the APK files for BlackBerry apps:

If the app cannot be downloaded through Google Play, the app's APK file can be downloaded and installed through a web browser on an Android device or tablet. The APK file must be hosted on a web server so that users can navigate to it using an accessible URL.

Complete the following steps to manually download and install the APK files:
  1. Open a web browser on your Android device or tablet.
  2. Tap the links above that correspond to the BlackBerry apps that need to be downloaded and installed.
  3. Once the app has downloaded, open the Downloads folder on the Android device.
  4. Tap the APK file and tap Yes when prompted.

Complete the following steps if app installations from unknown sources are blocked on the Android device:
  1. Open the Settings app on the Android device.
  2. Tap Security.
  3. Tap Unknown sources.
  4. Tap OK to acknowledge the warning that displays.
  5. Open the Downloads folder on the Android device.
  6. Tap on each APK file and tap Yes when prompted.
