Patti Austin – Gettin' Away With Murder

Should have been a massive Pop breakthrough for Patti. Some vocalists appear to be just too uniquely gifted and good! All the ingredients were there but promoters must have taken their eyes off the potential of this one. Probably put Patti off competing in the fickle World of Pop music as the follow up - The Real Me - was more her natural style but this and her previous two Qwest projects didn’t quite capitalise on her obvious crossover appeal. Note that Honey for the Bees was an album track previously for Alison Moyet which she herself deemed “too pop” for her interests and Gettin’ away with Murder was later given to Randy Crawford. All three amazing vocalists largely overlooked in Pop compared to lesser gifted vocalists.
