The book is extremely well written and the translation is perfect. The characters are very well written but frustrate me to no end. I have never read a character more detached (for lack of better word) than Wu Xingzi. I have also never read a character more obsessed with pengornis as him. I almost feel as frustrated as ML while reading the novel. That being said the writer needs to be appreciated for writing them like this because even though they both frustrate me and i want to leave the novel, I cant. The smut is also abundant and well written.

Continue reading it because it will slowly reveal why WX is so detached. I actually admire his character quite a lot. He's humble, knows his worth (or lack of), and has no expectations of anything. It's good this way because if he were like the usual MCs, the ML would have given up on him right away (rememeber that accountant who was crushed after the ML kicked him away). So the ML was after him probably because the MC didn't give a fk. I wish more danmei had MCs this independent...
Btw, I went in for the smut, stayed for the beautiful plot and WX.
Haha he's definitely a special MC ;). Honestly though, I really appreciate him both as a character and for how unique he is among danmei main characters. He's actually closer to middle-age than teenhood and is explicitly said to be plain looking (which is so nice to see in danmei where so many ppl are insanely gorgeous-- not that I don't enjoy the hot lol). I personally really related to his feelings of loneliness and his lack in self-confidence at the beginning of the novel, which I think most people have felt at some point in their lives.
The author takes time to reveal why he is the way he is, how his life ended up where he was, and generally even though it can be frustrating at the beginning you can see why Wu Xingzi and Guan Shanjin would behave the way they do. Wu Xingzi isn't going to be someone who throws all emotions and his heart into a relationship just because some hot young guy sweeps in. As for his pengornis addiction, well we all have some kinks haha (and the reason why he's so obsessed with them breaks your heart). Smut is indeed well written too!
When I first started this novel, I really didn't like the scum gong but I stayed for the MC and I'm glad I did!! My absolute favorite chapter was 87 where they sit down and TALK! But even after reading the book, I can't tell if pengornis is an actual word for that part of the body?? LOL!! Anyways I also highly recommend this novel for those who can read R18+ novels :)
