We came here a little after noon on the 4th of July. We had searched for a place to get something to eat and were drawn to the name of this place. We parked on one of the side streets nearby and walked to the...entrance. There is only street parking available as far as we could see. When we entered, we were very impressed. This building must have been built in the early 1900's or earlier. We absolutely love the interior with the exposed brick and wooden floor. We decided to order an appetizer of their Old Bay Kettle Chips from their Axe Snax. I was a little hesitant but went with it. The Old Bay seasoning was very mild and hardly noticeable. But the Kettle chips were very crunchy. For our entree's, my wife ordered the Shroom and Swiss burger and I chose the Western burger. Everything arrived in a timely fashion and looked good. We were both pleased with how tender the burgers were. I was amazed that the burger was actually medium well (just a little bit of pink). The service was very good as well. He checked on us regularly and he was attentive and friendly. Very cool place with great food and drinks and we would highly recommend if your in the area.More

We loved the historic feel of the Broad Axe with the old brick walls, high ceilings and nice dark long bar. While traveling we were looking for something more than fast food and this fit the bill perfectly. We easily found street parking but found...out they have a lot outside their back entrance as well as a popular courtyard there also. They had a nice beer selection, and it was good to see you could get a domestic pint like Yuengling or Michelob Ultra for $3.50. The waitress mentioned a chicken lunch special that turned out to be fantastic. It was a huge chicken breast with bacon, ham and a Jalapeno aioli on a great roll that was one of the best I have had. The Old Bay house chips were very good also, because a lot of places haven't mastered the house chip thing. My wife loved her crisp house salad topped with a lot of chicken. The Broad Axe has such a nice laid back classic atmosphere, we would be a frequent visitor if it wasn't 65 miles from our home. Both waitresses were outstanding running the entire place. They have a happy hour and music at times. Look forward to a return visit.More

Ive searched the Hagerstown and Boonsboro area for a good Chinese restaurant and finally I found a GREAT Chinese restaurant. The food is wonderful! The people are gracious and the ambience is wonderful. We have eaten there 7 times trying many different things and all...were great and served beautifully. Out two faves are Orange Beef and Singapore Noodles, The hot and sour soup is super. Egg rolls are a step above most. The steamed dumplings are very good. Three types of hot tea are served. Oh yes, my husbands new fave is Pad Thai. It’s all good and the people are so warm and helpful!it’s in Boonsboro in the same area as Weiss Grocery store. Good parking , closed Monday and Tuesday, open Wednesday thru Sunday.More

I've been a regular at the Broad Axe since moving to Hagerstown one year ago. While I love the location and the atmosphere, the service leaves something to be desired. This place has great bands on the weekend and a nice patio. The food is...standard pub grub at a reasonable price. The draft beer selection is also nice. My big complaint, however, is the service. Whether the place is busy or slow, service always seems to be slow. The staff never seems to be welcoming and I had a horrible experience with the bartender, Kelly, this evening. She ruined my takeaway order this evening and actually blamed me for her mistakes. Most of the staff seems very unhappy and they primarily cater to local people and friends. It is not a welcoming environment for travellers or people new to town. I keep giving this establisment multiple chances, but there are other nice bars in the area which are more welcoming. The consistent neglect and poor treatment by a couple of members of the Broad Axe staff leads me to recommend nearby spots such as AVA, 28 South, Hempen Hill, or Benny's. With so many new choices in town, I prefer to spend my time and money where I feel welcomed.More

We tried it for the first time during quarantine, and we were very happy! Food isn't always as good when you take it home, but it was just as hot & perfect when we got it home as it would have been in the restaurant.

When a group of friends were going to meet to begin a 10 day vacation. 5 of us decided that Hagerstown would be a good place to meet to travel together for part of the trip. Another friend recommended the Broad Axe. What a good...choice! We were there early afternoon so we had lunch. The food was delicious. We had several different things and everyone liked what they ordered. The owner and his helpers were very friendly. The building has been historically revamped and looks great as well as being very clean. It is a bar as well. We all would highly recommend it and even though we live a few hours away, we discussed that fact that we would probably make a trip again for something different to do.More

The waitstaff was fine. They knew the menu. But the food was below average. Soggy, burnt tasting fries, no flavor to the Cajun seasoned pickles. cheesesteak was pretty good

If you are looking for a great place to kick back and relax with your friends and a cold one, you will also enjoy what the menu has to offer. The patio is a great way to wind down after a long week, and pre-COVID...they usually have live entertainment every weekend. Love this place. As a local, I recommend it as one of my favorites.More

Went for lunch, had the muenster bacon burger and the half sand & soup entrees. Both were excellent, the burger was flavorful and or so moist - best burger that I've had in a long time. we were so pleased that we back the next...week for an early dinner. Had the Rueben sandwich and the cheesesteak sandwich. Again, our meals were excellent. Extremely pleased and will go back soon!More

As a fellow restauranteur I always seek out a local place to eat and drink. The Broad Axe was absolutely fantastic. The owner Bob and his brother, who is the general manager, greeted everyone that came into the door as if they were regulars including...us who have never been there. We sat and had a great dinner & drinks. Try the catfish nuggets, they were perfect. Hope yo see you at 1794 sometime this summer.More
