This is still my go-to hotel when we visit family in Summit as it is conveniently located. The majority of the staff are very friendly and they go out of their way to assist their guests or take care of special requests. Our room was very comfortable and clean. Even though there is no daily housekeeping service (most hotels have discontinued this as well) we had no issues getting what we needed. We were recently there for Thanksgiving. This was our first visit back since COVID started in 2020. The hours of operation for the Hat Tavern are very limited. I understand that there are business decisions that factor in but I hope the hours of operation are extended in the future. I used to enjoy having the convenience of having breakfast at the hotel. Since we did not have a car we had to walk into town if we wanted breakfast at a nearby restaurant which is not as convenient. I appreciate the complimentary continental breakfast served in the hotel lobby but it is not quite the same as sitting in the restaurant, ordering from a menu, and being waited on by your favorite servers. I sure hope the long-time employees found work somewhere else.
Thanks to all of the staff for your hard work. The renovations still look great. Wishing you all a Happy and prosperous holiday season.

Stayed here for 4 nights and was impressed with this majestic hotel. I was not aware that it was a historic hotel until i arrived. Despite its age, it is well kept and does not feel old.

The lobby is large and feels comfortable although not the best place to be at the time since congregating during the pandemic is not a good idea. All public areas were well kept and met my expectations of a great hotel. The rooms are large, comfortable and quite. I was taken aback by the number of electric sockets and usb charging sockets throughout the room. This was a great feature because I had many gadgets to recharge.

The bathroom was modern and cozy, comfortable in size. The only drawbacks were the lack of a full length mirror outside the bathroom (for the mrs.) and no luggage rack in the room. Minor issues.

We visited for an overnight stop between NC and Maine. It was a great alternative to a chain hotel. We had our dog and the fee was much less than the crazy $100 fees that are the current trend. Our room was small, but seemed newly renovated with modern bathroom fixtures. The bed and linens were comfortable and good quality. The complimentary breakfast was pretty generous and included some hot egg options. It's too bad the restaurant/bar is closed and that, generally, the hotel seemed a bit underutilized. It's a huge historic property in a quiet, pretty residential neighborhood. We would stay again.

We really enjoyed our stay at the Grand Summit. We paid an extra $20 per night upon checkin to stay on a renovated floor. The room was clean, spacious with charm. Beds were comfy. The hotel was very quiet and we slept well both nights. the hallways were wide. I used the basic fitness center and it was adequate., the location of the hotel is nice. It was a short 12 minute walk to train station where we took the train into NYC on a sunday. very easy experience. I enjoyed the historical significance of the hotel. a continental breakfast was provided and we appreciated that it had bottled juices too. I would definately stay at the Grand Summit again.

We came to NJ for a wedding being held at this hotel. My girlfriend is the sister/maid of honor of the bride and her daughter was a flower girl so needless to say we had a lot of luggage in tow.

From the moment we arrived, our weekend was plagued with problems. The room we reserved (a 2 room executive suite) was not ready upon our arrival so the 3 of us were placed in a regular room. Normally this isn’t a problem, but the room they put us in had one bed and no couch for our daughter. When we asked for a sleep away for her to be brought up while we ate dinner downstairs, it was brought and left upright in the room with the sheets on the floor. It may not be a big deal to some travelers but taking five minutes to make this bed for us would have made a difference, especially considering our reservation was already in disarray and we had been traveling all day.

Speaking of dinner, the Hat Tavern did have excellent food and friendly staff, but it’s only open from 5-9pm on weekdays and 5-930pm on weekends. Make sure you have the UberEats app on your phone because you’re going to need it.

The next day, we were moved to another room they claimed was a “suite” because it had a pull out couch. We again pointed out that this was not the room we had reserved but the hotel insisted it was the same. Because we had to begin preparations for the wedding, we simply couldn’t argue with them any longer about our room so we crammed our luggage and several large boxes of wedding supplies into our room. To make matters worse we were charged for the rate of a two room executive suite when we checked out.

The wedding itself was incredible, with little to no help from the hotel staff with the exception of Carrie, the catering manager. She was phenomenal and went out of her way to help make this event special. At one point in the evening, a gentleman named Patrick (the hotel’s Asset Manager) came into the ballroom and very rudely told the DJ to turn the music down. The DJ came to us and relayed what happened because even he was in shock at how unprofessional Patrick had been.

If you’re looking for a nice hotel in Summit, NJ I suggest you choose any location other than the Grand Summit Hotel. This establishment may have a long and rich history in Summit, but the current management is doing nothing to maintain its former reputation.

There is no reason to stay here until significant changes are made.

Dear ChiefJosheola, Thank you for being a guest at our hotel. Our number one focus is outstanding service and I'm sorry that we did not meet your stay expectation. Your feedback is very important for the hotel continuous improvements and note that your feedback is valuable and critical for our team for discussion. My apologies we did not meet your room type request at start of check-in and during your stay. We always want our guests to leave with nothing but happy memories of how they were treated. We are grateful that (Carrie) gave exceptional service in the catering department and your review was shared with her. Again, our sincere apologies and we ask that you consider giving the Grand Summit Hotel another opportunity to make a better impression whenever your travels bring you back to Summit, NJ.

Having been at the Summit Hotel pre-renovation, in what was a broken down and dilapidated and honestly fairly repulsive room I was looking forward to returning after hearing about the renovations thinking that maybe someone finally got around to restoring the Grand Old Lady to her former glory. Summit is a beautiful little affluent town and having something gorgeous and traditional is exactly what this town deserves.

Instead we were treated to no more kitchen services, the restaurant is closed (but free continental breakfasts that resemble what you buy in bulk at Costco). They do provide a handful of takeout menus and they're happy to let a delivery service deliver to your hotel room (so much for security)

With the restaurant/tavern closed they have what they describe as a "satellite bar" that opens at 5PM, but that only includes super cheap Barefoot wines by the bottle and an obscene amount of cinnamon whisky.

The furniture throughout the hotel and our room was super cheap prompting my wife to ask me if they bought everything mismatched at a furniture liquidation outlet- seriously even the ballroom has a little seating area I suppose for catered events but the furniture is hot red futons a 19 year old would put in their dorm room.

The shower takes 10 minutes plus to get hot water, and improves slightly if you run the sink at the same time- but with cheap, off smelling complimentary shampoo and conditioner, you're better off taking advantage of their relationship with local Gym Equinox where the showers are fully stacked with the ample collection of Kiehl's soaps and body washers (and immediate hot water)

My best description of the Summit Hotel these days is to describe it as a one of the lower end Hilton Garden Inns, but then again, you can at least find a wrapped sandwich at a Hilton Garden Inn.

Stayed here with my children in two rooms for three nights. From check in through check out everything was very well done. Extremely friendly and accommodating folks at the front desk. Nice fellow that took care of morning coffee, breakfast, and so much more, was part of this wonderful stay.

Comfortable bed, windows in the room opened with no trouble, lots of light, plenty of hot water in the shower, lots of plugs and USB ports.

Cozy lobby. Free parking, walking distance (5 minutes) from the charming little town of Summit.

Very nice grab and go breakfast with delicious coffee!

See the folks in the pictures. They were wonderful!

Nicely done Grand Summit staff!

We simply cannot express our gratitude enough for the professionalism, competence and kindness our family was blessed with during a 6 day stay while our adult child had brain surgery for a life altering tumor.

In the unimaginable worst of family times, Red Alert Covid, and very cold weather every member of the incredible staff went out of their way to make us feel as though we were surrounding by family all while not encroaching on our much needed privacy.

The open lobby area included new and extremely comfortable seating areas with a fireplace, for difficult conversations or whatever we needed for calming down during a stressful day as well as an area with work stations to complete remote business obligations. Lastly, (or in our case first, next and continually!) amazing...needs repeating....amazing meals from the on premise Hat Tavern!

Excellent property in a beautiful historical and culturally rich area with walking access to all possible wants and needs for a perfect getaway or stay!

Compassion and kindness available 24/7. Truly, The Grand Summit Hotel, in Summit, NJ is " a one of a kind boutique hotel offering an alternative guest experience."

A definite new "go to" for any get ways

My brother and I had a surprise 50th Anniversary party for our parents and it was absolutely great! We had it at the pool are and Carrie (Spiegel) and her staff made it look great. They put out the tables in all the right places and decorated the area with beautiful flowers. The food was also amazing! Chad the chef did a wonderful job with the passed hors d'oeuvres, buffet and dessert! There was plenty of food for all our guests (35) and then some. The wait staff was also wonderful! They made sure everyone was offered the passed hors d'oeuvres and made sure everyone had drinks. All our guests had a great time and raved about everything! I would definitely recommend this venue to anyone!! Thanks Carrie and Chad for making my parent's 50th truly memorable!!!
