The PMK and Anbumani were recently in the news for objecting to the blockbuster film Jai Bhim starring Surya. Anbumani had written to Surya criticising the filmmakers for trying to show the Vanniyar community in a poor light and condemning the misrepresentation of the community.

Under the leadership of the new president, the PMK is now eyeing the 2026 state assembly polls and is trying to strengthen its position in the state.
