- JoanJhSaratoga, CA506 contributionsThis is definitely a hidden gem. It is about 10 min drive out of downtown Tiburon. It is small, meticulously kept. It has clean lawn chairs dotted over the lawn, with a view of the Richmond bridge. It also has a great picnic area tucked away in one corner. There are two small parking lots ($5/car), plenty of space for a Monday afternoon. You can see the island by tram, rental bike or bring your own bike on the ferry or hike the 5 mile perimeter loop. Biking takes about 1-2 hours. Restrooms along the perimeter route, food at the ferry dock. - Danh KMarana, AZ351 contributionsThis little city which is a located on the northern side of the Golden Gate Bridge is a jewel! Its also the home of former comedienne Robin Williams. This city has just about everything the ferry, bike friendly, jogging trails, small business owners (mom and Pops), a small movie theater, great mix of international restaurants from italian to sushi, shopping, small lodge and boutique hotels, banks, vacation rentals,,,,,,, Very quiet and clean community. Its also away from the main freeway and best of all its not congested with people. There is a scenic park area which over looks the San Francisco bay area and the Golden Gate Bridge. Its family oriented and pet friendly. Its clean and very safe. All around its a beautiful place to spend your weekend or an all day stay.

- LKWendelWestfield, NJ2,302 contributionsWe went on the bike tour around the island and it was very hilly, so this was a great place to stop and take a break. My son is an Urban Seeker so he loves to take pictures of abandoned places especially when they have some history associated with them, and this place was perfect. It is embarrassing to read how we treated our fellow Americans during WWII and many people are unaware of our dark past.
