Richard Hudson has represented North Carolina in Congress since 2013. In the U.S. House of Representatives, Richard is recognized as a conservative leader, focused on common-sense solutions to support our economy, veterans, and families. He also serves as chairman of the National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC), placing him as the fifth-ranking Member in leadership and one of the highest-ranking Congressmen from North Carolina in history.
As a Member of the House Energy and Commerce Committee, Richard is working to cut federal spending, reduce drug prices for seniors, and unleash American energy to lower costs for everyone and create jobs.
As the Sandhills’ Congressman and representative of the largest military base in the world, Richard is also focused on supporting our troops, their families, and veterans. He’s sponsored legislation to increase military pay, improve education for military families, and fix the bureaucracy at the VA.
Richard has been rated the most effective legislator from North Carolina and the 12th most conservative Member of the House. He is a proven leader on defending the Second Amendment with an A+ from the NRA, protecting life with 100% from the National Right to Life, improving school safety, and supporting our farmers, growers, and producers.
Tracing his roots back seven generations in the Sandhills, Richard learned about hard work from his father, working construction jobs from an early age and waiting tables to help put himself through college. He learned about public service from his mother, a retired North Carolina public school teacher. Throughout his professional career, Richard has drawn upon these values and lessons to get results for the people he serves.
Richard’s past volunteer leadership service includes membership on the Rowan-Cabarrus Community College Board of Trustees, Board of Governors of the UNC Charlotte Alumni Association, Board of Managers of the West Cabarrus YMCA and Board of Directors of the Cabarrus Jaycees. Richard is also an avid hunter and outdoorsman and long-time fan of NASCAR.
Richard grew up in Charlotte and graduated from Myers Park High School before serving as Student Body President and earning a Bachelor of Arts at UNC Charlotte.
Richard, his wife Renee, and their son live in Southern Pines.
