The Mercersburg Academy Chorale, Magtet, Concert Band, and String Ensemble will perform Friday, April 26, at 7:30 p.m. in the Burgin Center for the Arts’ Simon Theatre. The Spring Music Concert will showcase a variety of pieces. 

The Mercersburg Academy Chorale, directed by Kristen Morrow and James Brinson, will perform “Musick's Empire” by Lloyd Pfautsch; “Cantate Domino” by Claudio Monteverdi; “My Soul is Awakened” by Anne Brontë; “Shine On Me” by Dan Auerbach; and “You'll Be in My Heart” by Phil Collins. 

“It will be a more conventional concert but with a lot of variation and different styles,” said Morrow, noting that Mercersburg’s a cappella group, Magtet, will also perform in the Spring Music Concert. “They will be singing a version of Bohemian Rhapsody, which I am excited about.”

The String Ensemble, directed by Michael Cameron, will perform a range of pieces, including: 

• “Impact” by Bob Phillips

• “Melodie” composed by Christoph Gluck and arranged for solo violin and string orchestra by Fritz Kreisler, featuring solo violinist Ellie Kim ’24

• “Water Droplets” by Jean Sibelius, featuring violinist Karin Sugiyama ’27 and cellist Peter Shi ’27

• “Madness” by Joe Hisaishi

Mercersburg’s Chorale and String Ensemble will perform songs prepared for the Music in the Parks: Hersheypark Adjudication. “I feel very proud to have such hard working, young musicians to work with and so, any opportunity for them to perform is something that is special to me,” said Cameron. 

The Concert Band, led by Shami Beni, will perform selections by Gustav Holst, The Beach Boys, and John Philip Sousa. While the Spring Concert will be a traditional performance, “it’s going to be filled with energy,” said Beni. 

The Spring Concert stirs much anticipation in the Mercersburg community. “I always look forward to hearing our various groups perform at the end of the year. It’s a culmination of what we were doing, and it’s a time to shine,” said Brinson.
